Week 12 Pick'em Games - Week 11 Results

Post by EMan »

We’ve all heard the old expression, “Misery loves company.” While that may be true, it’s very little consolation when you’re the one suffering the initial misery. And this year, if you’re a Sooner fan, watching football has evoked a lot of misery! Sure, Florida St. is by far the most disappointing team in the country this year. No doubt their fans have moved beyond misery. And defending national champion Michigan hasn’t fared much better than OU, currently sitting at 5-5 as well. And Aggie Lite is in the midst of an 0-fer conference run. (In all fairness, the Sooners have nothing to brag about in that department either, even if they have faced a significantly tougher schedule.) No, this season has been about as disappointing as any we’ve had to deal with in a long time. And yesterday was just the cherry on top of a sundae full of misery. Anit-Sooner Magic if you will. All we can do now is buck up, hope BV and the administration admit changes need to be made and then make those tough decisions. Then perhaps we can move forward to bigger and certainly better days. While we as fans are unquestionably grousing and complaining about the offense and what we perceive the issues to be, all we’re really asking for is an honest assessment of what those problems are, and an objective plan to address them going forward. That may require some difficult and unpleasant changes within the program, but such is life. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and these issues won’t be corrected overnight, but you have to be willing to admit where the deficiencies exist and accept the best path forward to correct them, no matter how painful that road appears to be. That’s all we ask. A candid evaluation of this moribund offense. And quite frankly, that’s what we deserve.

Meanwhile, over in our Pick’em contest, Fiascosdad couldn’t ask for much more. Dad only had 13 correct picks on the day, one less than his closest pursuer, OUcharlie, but nailing 8 of the 9 high-value games will usually help you score. Charlie only missed 2 of the 9 but that one extra mistake was the difference between standing in second on the podium or turning doughnuts in the winner’s circle! Well done, FD! Enjoy your day basking in the glow of the Pick’em spotlight! To the victor goes the spoils! Rounding out the rest of our Top Five, we have SwampSooner holding down third, followed by gcruse7 and yours truly, EMan in fourth and fifth respectively.

But let’s not shed too many tears for OUcharlie. If you take a look at the top of the leaderboard in the race for our regular season championship, guess who’s sitting in the catbird seat. Yep, none other than Mr. Charles himself. So, it looks like that “close but no cigar” philosophy is a two-way street after all. Sitting in second this week is gcruse7, and that 7 is significant as that is how far behind OUc he sits right now. A paltry 7 points. Talk about a race! Third place is currently occupied by Bronco, who is followed by last week’s overall leader, cushcreekmont in fourth, and SD-OU in fifth. You can see all the year-to-date standings by clicking HERE.

OK, so let’s move on from a disappointing Week 11 and turn our attention to Week 12 and the next round of contests! Deadline for submittals this week will be 11 AM, Saturday, November 16th.
