Oklahoma Men's Tennis Hosts Regional as #11 Seed in the NCAA's !

The Oklahoma Men's Tennis Team earned the #11 Seed in the Men's NCAA Tennis Championships and will host a Site Regional with UT-Arlington, SMU and Stanford included in the Regional.

"We're really excited to host this year's regional championship," head coach Nick Crowell said. "We have four good teams in our region which is exciting. It's going to be a great weekend of tennis and our guys are ready. They've been playing great tennis all spring and have worked really hard for this opportunity to host here in Norman and we're ready to get to work."

Stanford and SMU open the Regional play on Friday, May 3rd at 10 AM at Headington Family Tennis Center on the west side of LNC's parking lot. The Sooners opening match will be against UT-Arlington on Friday, May 3rd at 1 PM also at Headington Family Tennis Center.

The Sooners and the Mavericks have played this spring on Jan 21st, indoors, and won the match 4-0. The Regional will be outdoors if weather permits. If not, it will be played indoors inside Headington Family Tennis Center.

The two first-round winners will play on Saturday at 1 PM with the winner moving on to the Super Regionals.

The Oklahoma Sooners won their opening Regional match against UT-Arlington on Friday at 1 PM 4-0 at Headington Family Tennis Center. The Sooners advance to play Stanford who won the 10 AM match over SMU by the same score 4-0. The two winners Oklahoma and Stanford will play today at 1 PM at Headington.

The Sooners won the Doubles Point with wins on the #3 court (Hank Trondson and Asahi Harazaki) and the #1 court (No. 58 Alex Martinez and Baptiste Anselmo).

In the Singles, the Sooner won on courts #4, (Luis Alvarez) court #1 (No. 10 Alex Martinez)and court #6 (Mark Mandlik) to win the three needed points to reach the 4-0 win over UT-Arlington. All three Sooners won in straight sets.

With a win on Saturday over Stanford, the Sooners would advance to the Super Regionals to play the winner of Arizona State and Wake Forest (#11 Seed).

The Oklahoma Sooners Men's Tennis Teams season ended on Saturday (11th-ranked) as the Sooners dropped their match to 19th-ranked Stanford 4-2 in a very close match. The Sooners lost the doubles point as the Sooners won the #3 match 6-4 (Hank Trondson/Asahi Harazaki - OU) before dropping the #1 match 7-5 (#58 Baptiste Anselmo/Alex Martinez - OU) and then dropping the #2 match in a tie-breaker 7-6 (7-5) (Kholo Montsi/Luis Alvarez - OU).

With Stanford leading 1-0, Stanford won the the first two singles matches to finish at #6 (Mark Mandlik - OU) and #5 (Justin Schlageter - OU). But down 3-0, the Sooners started a comeback. At #3 (Jordan Hasson - OU) won in two sets to pick up the first Sooner point. than at #4 (Luis Alvarez - OU) won his match in 3 sets. With the #1 and #2 matches remaining to be decided the Sooners were now down 3-2.

The #1 match (#11 Alex Martinez - OU) was in the 3rd set of play after winning the first set in a tie-breaker and then dropping the second set in a tie-breaker. At #2 (#69 Kholo Montsi - OU) had won the first set and then dropped the second set in a tie-breaker. The #2 match reached the decision point first as the 3rd set played to a tie-breaker. Stanford won the tie-breaker to win the match and the overall match 4-2. The #1 match was at 3-5 when play was halted with Stanford in the lead.

The Sooners ended the season 21-5 on the year after advancing to their 14th consecutive NCAA Tournament.
