Hopefully, Maxwell is at least in progress of conquering getting rattled. I was questioning Patty's decision to leave Maxwell in for so long, but I think both Maxwell and the team might have benefited by that decision. We played PREVENT (watching the innings progress)on offense after we got up by 5. I hate it when that happens...we got things to work on.

Don’t know the stats, but we do seem to score runs in bunches. However, if we see Czech again, we will score some runs.

We beat our arch rival, a top 10 team that damn near matches us in a lot of stats, at their place to open the series. I will take it all day long.

so glad to have Maxwell this year. Keeps getting better

I do think Maxwell was getting tired - after pitching over 100 pitches. I think up to 6th inning it was looking impressive - as we were closing in on a no-hitter. After the hit, I think Maxwell lost a little something but I am glad to see her stay in and fight through it.

As for the hitting, I thought we should have been more patient. I think we would have walked more had we been patient, I wasn't watching (but listening) but it sounded like Morgan wasn't pitching lots of strikes. I would like to see us staying more aggressive but I think we had some flat out bad luck with 2 double plays, Kinzie leaving early and a few hard hits right to defenders.

Hoping to see May take charge tomorrow and our goal to be to get on base even if it means walks. Not sure who texas will throw tomorrow. Thinking maybe Czech but I think they normally go with Gutierrez on games 2. Who knows. I feel pretty good as it was looking like a pretty easy win up to the bottom of the 6th.

Yeah! I'll take the win all day, everyday!!

Do you think that, with a decent lead, it is a mental challenge to go into "prevent mode?"

How much of the "prevent" is from the players, and how much is from the coaches?

I get the thinking in spades, hearts, clubs and diamonds. Go up 5-0 on your biggest rival and top 5 team late in the game....it is a definite win unless all the wheels come off the wagon all at once. We got this. Play it cool. Just get three more outs.....and we can walk out of here today on the plus side of the post-game press conference.

I am okay with that. You?

Maxwell is OU's best pitcher. If this series is close Patty will bring Maxwell in as a reliever tomorrow then start her on Sunday

I do agree that Maxwell seems to be the lead pitcher. I'm anxious to see what May does tomorrow. I hope she doesn't start off giving up a few runs right off. If she can avoid that and get into her rhythm we should be able to outscore them no matter who they pitch. We just need to score, score and score.

I do think if we win tomorrow Deal will start on Saturday. If we are leading and she starts to struggle, I could see Patty going with Keeney but then definitely bringing in Kelly to close if we are ahead.

So very glad we have Kelly this year. May is great, but you can't win enough games with just one really good pitcher - you need at least 2 and Kelly is probably just a bit better than May at getting strikeouts and limiting run damage - although May has her moments and I would love to see her really start putting it together starting tomorrw.

I could see Deal pitch if texsa has trouble with lefties. Maxwell IS the best OU pitcher. I would guess May starts tonight. Personally, I worry about May giving up walks and HRs - either could give texsa enough to win if OU is not hitting.

texsa played like texsa with several errors, but they got lucky with those not costing them. OU's baserunning showed up poorly once more. HAVE to stop the "leaving early" to avoid having that as a reputation and post-season umpires call it too often. And the double play where our runner heading to second ran into a tag rather than stopping and making the second baseman throw for the out was another mental error.

Did everyone note that Brito got a sacrifice fly when it was needed even on the sinkerball pitcher? The broadcasters said it was the second sac fly the pitcher had thrown. Of course Jayda made her pay the most with the HR.

OU hitters will see top pitching in the post season, so they need to keep being selective and timely.
texsa sucks!

KC--not exactly sure what you mean by 'prevent mode' but I'm going to assume it's when we get a decent lead and then sub in our defensive specialists Coor and Hodge. We're supposedly giving up the offensive production of who they are replacing, and relying on their excellent defense to keep the opponents off the scoreboard.
No, I'm not particularly opposed to doing that. If the score is more minimal, 1 or 2 runs, then yeah, I want to keep my more reliable bats in the game. We led 5-0 at the time they came in and I was fine with that. And I don't think the rest of the team particularly let up any because of that.
I was proud of KellyMax. And also of Coach Gasso for leaving her in there in the 7th inning. She probably was tired, and maybe got a little frustrated, but like she said in the post game pc, she just finds another level, stays with her routine and feeds the ball to her defense and let them make the plays behind her.

I too, think May gets the call today, and I also think we'll face off against Citaly Gutierrez this time. She pitched a really good game in Stillwater for the whorns only win up there. if we are able to win the series today, then I think both coaches throw their 'young'uns', Kavan and Deal, in the fire tomorrow.
