Sooner Wrestlers at the Big 12 Tourney this Weekend on Sat & Sun

The Oklahoma Sooner Wrestlers are at the Big 12 Wrestling Tourney in Tulsa this weekend. They bring six wrestlers to Big 12s that are ranked in the NCAA Coaches Rankings. OU also has six wrestlers seeded in the Big 12 pre-seeds as the team prepares for the championship. Here are the first round matchups for the Sooners on Saturday.

Oklahoma First Round Matchups
125: Conrad Hendriksen vs. No. 6 Kysen Terukina (ISU)
133: Jace Koelzer vs. No. 2 Evan Frost (ISU)
141: Kaden Smith vs. No. 2 Tagen Jamison (OSU)
149: No. 2 Willie McDougald vs. James Emmer (UVU)
157: No. 8 Jared Hill received a bye
165: No. 6 Cael Carlson received a bye
174: No. 6 Tate Picklo vs. Noah Blake (AF)
184: Giuseppe Hoose vs. No. 2 Dustin Plott (OSU)
197: No. 2 Stephen Buchanan received a bye
285: No. 4 Josh Heindselman received a bye

As a team, Oklahoma finished day one in eighth place out of 13 teams, totaling 53.5 points.

The Six Sooners still in the action and the Big 12 Tourney are:

- Koelzer at 133 in the semi's for a possible 3rd place finish.
- McDougald at 149 in the semi's for a possible 3rd place finish.
- Hill at 157 in the semi's for a possible 3rd place finish.
- Buchanan at 197 in the semi's for a possible 3rd place finish.
- Hindselman at 285 in the semi's for a possible 3rd place finish.
- Picklo at 174 is in the 7th place match today.

In the Big 12 Wrestling Tournament, the Oklahoma Sooners finished in 7th Place with 68.5 points. Individually, the Sooners qualified five Sooner wrestlers for the NCAA's on March 22-24 in Kansas City, Missouri.

The five Sooners that will be going on to the NCAAs are:

5th Place Match - 133 - Jace Koelzer (Oklahoma) 16-12 won by medical forfeit over Hunter Leake (California Baptist) 16-9 (MFFL)
5th Place Match - 149 - Willie McDougald (Oklahoma) 15-8 won by medical forfeit over Logan Gioffre (Missouri) 8-7 (M. For.)
5th Place Match - 157 - Brock Mauller (Missouri) 17-5 won by tech fall over Jared Hill (Oklahoma) 13-11 (TF-1.5 5:38 (19-3))
3rd Place Match - 197 - Stephen Buchanan (Oklahoma) 21-2 won by decision over Joseph Novak (Wyoming) 22-12 (Dec 6-4)
3rd Place Match - 285 - Zach Elam (Missouri) 25-2 won by major decision over Josh Heindselman (Oklahoma) 21-6 (MD 8-0)

What a weird conglomeration of universities for the Tiny 12. I haven't really paid attention, and knew none of the tejas universities had wrestling, but didn't know who else was in the conference. California Baptist, Northern Colorado, and Utah Valley? Who would have thunk it?
