Sooner Men's Basketball Hosts BYU Tonight at LNC @ 7 PM

Post by OUBeliever56A »

The Oklahoma Men's Basketball Team hosts BYU tonight in Lloyd Noble Center in a 7 PM tip-off. The Sooners are 4-5 in conference and 16-6 overall. BYU is 4-4 in conference and 16-5 overall. Oklahoma's NET is #3 while BYU's is #7. BYU is ranked #21/#19 while OU is RV33/RV31. Oklahoma is probably a home-court underdog tonight.

The Big 12 conference contest will air on the Sooner Sports Radio Network (KRXO 107.7 FM The Franchise in Oklahoma City; KTBZ 1430 AM in Tulsa; Varsity Radio App) with Toby Rowland and Kevin Henry announcing and be broadcast by ESPN+ with Mark Neely (PxP) and King McClure (analyst) on the call.

Here is the Sooner staff writers article about the Big 12 contest tonight.

From what I see, BYU likes to play games in the 70/80 point range. Three of the wins in the Big 12 saw the Cougars score at least 84 points. They make 12 three's a game. This will be a key. OU has not allowed an opponent to make 10 three's in 43 consecutive games. In the Big 12, it has been 47 consecutive games. BYU has three players who have made 30 three's. two have made 50 threes. OU has to play defense on the perimeter weill against BYU.

They are not huge in the paint, but they are big enough. Two 6'11" guys probably start but they most about half of the time with just 1 big in the game. A 6'10" and two 6'8" players come off the bench. But because of the spread out offense on the perimeter, Godwin and Hugley IV might be on own 1-on-1 inside. They must play well.

BYU's best scorer is Robinson (6'7") as he scores 13.8 with 51 made three's. Off the bench, Knell, is their second best scorer at 11.8 points with another 51 made three's.

The Sooners offense needs to be a team effort tonight. McCollum and Oweh need to do their part along with Uzan, Moore, Soares and Godwin/Hugley IV. Hopefully Darthard also shoots well too. They game might be a quickly paced game up and down the floor. That may favor OU a bit, but they have to handle the ball well.

The Sooners have a chance for a 2-win week with OSU coming to LNC on Saturday. The Sooners need a 2-win week badly. Winning tonight is not going to be easy, especially if BYU makes a bunch of 3's.

Good luck to the Sooners tonight.

The Sooners played very well tonight. The key was perhaps the limiting of the BYU from three's as they only had 8 I believe. Coach Moser said that was only the 3rd times this season where BYU was under 10 three's. Coach Porter said they gave up the two in the pick and roll rather than 3's by the guard.

Moore, Soares continue to play well. While the BYU big had some points, Godwin and Hugley IV played him tough. McCollum got into the game late, Uzan, Oweh Darthard played well too.

Very good win....

OSU is next on Saturday!
