#1 vs #2- OU Women's Gymnastics travels to Zona for Tri-Meet FRI

Post by OUBeliever56A »

The #1 Oklahoma Sooner Women's Gymnastics Team travels to Arizona to compete against the #2 California Bears and the #23 Arizona State Sun Devils Women's Teams. The Tri-Meet on Friday night starts at 8 PM and can be viewed via PAC-12 Insider.

Friday's meet marks the second time this season the Sooners will face the No. 2 team in the country. OU previously defeated then-No. 2 Utah at the Sprouts Collegiate Quad on Jan. 13. This will also be the first of two matchups against Cal as the Sooners and Golden Bears will meet at the Metroplex Challenge later this month.

Here is the Sooner staff writers article about the #1 vs #2 matchup.

Good luck to the Sooner!

Anyone know if PAC 12 insider is accessible on a one-off basis for a reasonable fee? Shame that a meet with 1 v 2 is on a tv feed most people don’t have.

I looked and could not figure out if it was only via a package like Fubo or a subscription streaming package.

I will try to watch at 8 and have live stats on also.

It looks like the PAC 12 Insider might be available for free on Tubi. I didn’t go all the way thru registration - will try it tonight at time of event. but it looks like this might work?

Download Tubi - register an account. Search “pac 12 insider” and start watching. Currently showing a meet from last year, with a note saying our meet starts at 8 central.

Appears that will work without a subscription.

The #1 Oklahoma Sooners Women's Gymnastics Team rallied from a 0.200 deficit after two rotations to overtake the #2 California Bears last night in Arizona to win the match 198.325 to 197.950 in a very impressive finish for the Sooners. Arizona State, the third team in the meet and the host team, finished with a 197.250 for 3rd place in the meet. The Sooners 198.325 was their season high, so far.

After the Floor and the Vault rotation, the Sooners, the Sooners had a total of 98.900 and trailed California who posted a 99.100 on the Bars and Beam. Oklahoma posted scores of 49.650 on the Floor with five counting scores of 9.900 or better. Bowers had the top score at 9.975. On the Vault, in the second rotation, the Sooners posted a 49.250 as they counted a 9.800 score. Wells and LeVasseur posted the top score for the Sooners at 9.875. California posted a 49.525 on the Bars and a 49.575 in their first two rotations.

The Sooners then went on an amazing run of performances on the Bars and the Beam. The Sooners sent 7 Sooners out to compete on the Bars and the Beam. Davis, Smith, LeVasseur, Torrez and Bowers each competed on both events while Sievers was on Bars and Wells was on Beam. Those seven (7) Sooners posted counting scores of at least as 9.900 on the two difficult final events.

The Sooners were better on the Bars than that. The Sooners posted five counting scores of 9.950. Included in that was Bowers' perfect 10.0 on Bars. The first '10' for the Sooners this year. The Sooners 49.825 was incredible as it tied the Sooners programs best score on the Bars. Their Bars effort propelled the Sooners into the lead over California by 0.200 points as the Sooners had a 3 event total of 148.725 while California posted a 49.425 on Floor for a 3 event total of 148.525.

In the final rotation, the Sooners were on Beam and the Sooners simply nailed that 4-inch wide beam high off the floor with a score of 49.650. Each Sooner posted at least a 9.900 on the Beam. Torrez had the high score on the Beam for OU at 9.975. The Sooners 49.650 pushed their total over 198 for a final score of 198.375. California posted a 49.425 on the Vault in the final rotation for their total score of 197.950.

In the All-Around Event, the Sooners had four gymnasts in the Top 4 last night. Bowers won the All-Around with a 39.675. LeVasseur finished in a tie for 2nd with her 39.650 while Davis and Torrez finished with 39.625's in a 4th place tie. Four Sooners competed in all four events and finished only 0.50 apart from each other. To me that is very impressive bu all four athletes.

Here is the Sooner staff writers article about the Tri-Meet last night. It is worth the read.

The Sooners posted an amazing score given a terrible vault night. A bit concerning, as that is the second consecutive poor showing on vault. Sooners didn’t have a single “stick”, nor a single 9.9 or better. Much work needed here.

LSU posted a huge score at home last night - 198.475 - there was some X posting from the “gym world” that indicated LSU was the beneficiary of inflated home cooking. Nevertheless, LSU is clearly our biggest competitor right now.

Just look at LSU's scores on the road compared to their home contests. They definitely benefit from "gifts" at home.

We had a quad-meet with LSU, Utah, and UCLA three weeks ago. LSU finished third at 197.150. We won with a 197.900. Cal is looking pretty good though.

LSU had to count falls on beam their first 2 meets this year. So those scores (both of which were away meets) are really not comparable. If LSU hits, they are easily our biggest competition right now.

Sooners are looking good! I worry about how many we have competing in the AA each week. Fatigue and nagging injuries have a way of sneaking up on people. Wish we had a little more depth.
