Oklahoma Women's Tennis: At the Fall Big 12 Championship in Waco

I am one day late on this posting. I thought the tourney started on Friday. I will try to catch up.

The Oklahoma Sooner Women's Tennis team is at the Big 12 Women's Fall Championships in Waco today. The Big 12 Fall Championships run from today, Friday the 10th to the 12th.

The Sooners will be represented at the Big 12 Fall Championships by Ava Catanzarite, Romana Cisovska, Dana Guzman, Zdena Safarova, Alina Shcherbinina, Emma Staker and Florencia Urrutia. Guzman claimed the singles title in 2022 after a perfect 4-0 outing.

The recent success of the Guzman-Shcherbinina Doubles Team also bodes well for OU this weekend. I think the Sooners have shown that they have a strong team this fall and they should do well this weekend. I am surprised that Julia Garcia-Ruiz is not in Waco. See the post below for where Julia Garcia-Ruiz is playing this weekend.

I do not see Texas, Oklahoma State or West Virginia teams represented at the tourney.

Here are the Singles results for the Sooners in the Big 12 Fall Championships. There are four divisions for the Singles play. The Gold, the Green, the White and the Yellow.

Gold:

OU's Guzman - WON 6-1, 6-4 over Kovalenko - Houston. = Guzman plays on Friday at 11 AM vs Suarez of K-State.

OU's Shcherbinina - WON 3-6, 6-3, 10-8 (TB) over Huang of BYU. = Shcherbinina plays on Friday at 11 AM vs Tiglea of Texas Tech.

Green:

OU's Urrutia - WON 6-0, 6-4 over Sheriff - Texas Tech. = Urrutia plays on Friday at 11 AM vs Leslie of UCF.

OU's Straker - WON 6-1, 6-2 over Gagoshidze - Kansas. = Straker plays on Friday at 11 AM vs Schouten of Houston.

White:

OU's Catanzarite - WON 6-4, 7-5 over Polokova of K-State. = Catanzarite plays on Friday at 11 AM vs Massey of Kansas.

OU's Cisovska - WON 6-3, 6-3 over Watanabe of Cincy. = Cisovska plays on Friday at 11 AM vs Wheatley of BYU.

Yellow:

OU's Safarova had a Bye on Thursday. Safarova plays at 12:30 PM on Friday vs Skoric of Houston.

OU was 6-0 on Thursday in Singles!

Here are the Doubles schedule fo today: There are two divisions in the Doubles, Blue and Red.

Blue:

OU's Guzman and Safarova had a BYE on Friday.

OU's Cisovska and Catanzarite play Friday at 10 AM vs Guenther-Gruszczynska of Cincy.

Red:

OU's Straker and Urrutia play Friday at 10 AM vs Skoric-Trencheva of Houston.

(I am surprised that Shcherbinina and Guzman are not playing double together after their recent success. With 7 players at the Big 12's, Shcherbinina is not playing doubles.)

Play continued on Saturday at the Big 12 Fall Championships in Waco for the Oklahoma Sooner Women's Tennis Team.

Here are the Singles results for the Sooners from Saturday. There are four divisions for the Singles play. The Gold, the Green, the White and the Yellow.

Gold:

In the main bracket, OU's Shcherbinina lost her match 3-6, 5-7.

In a consolation bracket for the Gold play, OU's Guzman WON her match 6-0, 6-1.

Green:

In the main bracket, OU's Urrutia WON her match 5-7, 7-5, 10-3. Urrutia is now in the Finals!

In the main bracket, OU's Straker lost her match 6-4, 2-6, 6-10.

White:

In a consolation bracket for the White play, OU's Catanzarite WON her match 1-6, 7-6, 11-9 (TB).

In the main bracket, OU's Cisovska lost her match 5-7, 6-4, 5-10 (TB).

In the Yellow Bracket, I could not find any results for OU's Safarova.

Here are the Doubles results for Saturday. There are two divisions in the Doubles, Blue and Red.

Blue:

OU's Guzman and Safarova WON two matches. The first was WON by the score of 6-2. The second match was won 6-0.

OU's Cisovska and Catanzarite WON two matches. Both matches were won by the score of 6-2.

The two OU Teams play in the Finals.

Red:

OU's Straker and Urrutia WON two matches. Both matches were won by the score of 6-3. The team is no in the Finals.

Expected for Sunday:

OU's Urrutia is playing in the Finals of the Green Bracket.

All three of OU's Doubles teams will play today in Final Matches.

Here are the results from Sunday's action at the Big 12 Fall Championships.

In Doubles Action:

Blue:

OU's Cisovska and Catanzarite WON 6-1 over OU's Guzman and Safarova in an ALL OU Final.

Red:

OU's Straker and Urrutia Lost in the Finals by the score of 4-6 to a Texas Tech Duo.

In single action:

Green:

OU's Urrutia WON in the Finals by the score of 6-4, 6-0 over Van Vuuren of Kansas.

White:

In the Consolation North finals, OU's Catanzarite WON 6-4, 4-6, 10-5 (TB) over Costache of Kansas.

In the 3rd-4th Match, OU's Straker finished in 3rd Place with a WIN by the score of 7-5, 4-6, 10-4 (TB) over Massey of Kansas.

Yellow:

In Consolation play, OU's Safarova WON her match 6-4, 6-2 over Parreno of Houston.

The Sooners play at the Big 12 Fall Championships ends their play for the Fall. During the Fall the Sooners played well and indicates that the Sooners will be a strong team in the Fall.
