Current State of the Big XII

Post by BixSooner »

Was reading where Desmond Howard was saying the best conference is the PAC 12 (as opposed to the SEC). Then later on, I see a Sooner pundit asking this question. “Who’s the third best team in the Big 12, Iowa State? Or Kansas?” Painful, not because those aren’t “nice” teams, but a “good” team would stomp a mud hole in them.

Blows my minds that of the other 12 teams in this conference, there’s no on else in the “good team” discussion.

Not a good conference.

No it’s not a good conference this year. I think that’s not necessarily a bad thing for OU. We needed a schedule with which we could win games, keep the recruiting momentum going, and head into the SEC next year with plenty of confidence. That appears to be happening.
That trip to Lawrence and the night game in Provo could still be dicey if the Sooners don’t bring their “A” game.

I don't think that the Big 12 had few options for their conference. It was the issue of the Big 12 the minute that NU, MU, and A&M left the conference; there weren't many options. USC, UCLA, Oregon, and Washington bolting the PAC 12 for the B1G opened up some schools such as Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, and Utah. It will be interesting to see where other PAC schools wind up. Stanford, Washington State, Oregon State, and Cal were at one point going to try to find a home in the ACC, which is going to be brutal for the not football sports.

Didn’t want to start a new thread but this is still awesome

40 years ago today: The Day The Pride Won Bedlam.

Trailing Oklahoma State 20-3 in the fourth quarter, band director Gene Thrailkill was escorted off the field by Stillwater Police for not having a sideline pass.

Thrailkill told the Pride to "start playing and don't stop until we're ahead!"

It’s estimated The Pride played “Boomer Sooner” around 300 times that day. It helped rally OU for an unforgettable 21-20 come-from-behind win.

After the game, Barry Switzer awarded a game ball to The Pride.

At this point in the season, the Big XII (or XVI or XIV) is realizing exactly how badly they will miss :ou: and :horns: . They are the only 2 teams in this year's version ranked in the top 25.

The only other future team won't join until next year and Utah isn't in the top 10.

They are getting what they wanted and what they deserve. My hope is that one of the new teams like Colorado, or Utah or BYU comes in and dominates the Old Guard as OU and Texas have done.

The one last joy will be leaving the Big XII at the end of this year with yet another Conference Championshipi, and then like the t-shirt says, Good by Big XII - Thanks for the Trophies - off to the SEC! :D :D :D
