OU vs Iowa State - Pick the Score Contest
While the Sooner defense seems to just be getting better week by week, the offense against Cincinnatti seemed to continue to follow the great game, fair game pattern. Or maybe it is great against a poor defense and fair against a team with a defensive pulse. Or maybe they're still figuring out the best way to attack their opponent and who should be on the field. At any rate we can agree that the offense is a work in progress and the defense is carrying the team, which has been an almost unheard of statement for at least the past 10 years. Someone who wasn't surprised by the defensive excellence and the offensive lulls was Charliedontsurf, whose prediction of the Sooners winning 24-15 ended up being our winner last week.
Here is the list of this season's winners:
Week 1: Triple Option 77-0; actual score 73-0
Week 2: Fly 38-10; actual score 28-11
Week 3: Walt 63-13, actual score 66-17
Week 4: Charliedontsurf 24-15; actual score 20-6
Week 5 sees the Sooners return to Owen Field for their conference home opener against an Iowa State team that has been recently pesky to the Sooners. OU hasn't scored more than 30 points in the last 4 meetings with ISU. This year's Cyclone team also looks to bring a pretty stout defense; however, their offense makes the Sooners look like a powerhouse. It sure appears that the Sooner's defense should handle the Cyclone offense, so the question remains if the Sooner offense returns to its every-other-week excellence, or if it struggles against a defense with a pulse. I'm hedging my bets as to which offense shows up. I'll be conservative and say the Sooners win, but don't blow them out.
