A Rare Event. A Good Sign????

Post by StatesEye »

Credit to my son who asked this question. Below is the answer.

From 2003 to present, there have been 248 opportunities for OU to hold their opponents to 11 or fewer points over two consecutive games. OU accomplished this 7 times out of 248 opportunities.

2023 (Games 1 and 2)
2013 (Games 1 and 2)
2009 (Games 2 and 3)
2004 (Games 10 and 11)
2004 (Games 11 and 12)
2003 (Games 9 and 10)
2003 (Games 10 and 11)

Wow. The last time it happened was 10 years ago.

I think it’s definitely a good sign.

Also I heard in the post game show that it had been 20 years since OU had held opponents scoreless for six consecutive quarters.

Any six quarters—not just first six quarters of a season.

That is astonishingly hard to do, and I didn’t fully appreciate the feat until I heard the stat.
