Women's Tennis Team back to the ITA Indoor Nationals: Faces Duke

Post by OUBeliever56A »

The 15th ranked Oklahoma Sooners Women's Tennis Team is in Seattle, WA in the ITA Indoor Finals this weekend. The Sooners are in a four team bracket with Duke #4-ranked, Stanford #5 ranked and Georgia. The Sooners will face Duke in the first match. OU faced Duke twice in 2022 and won both times against the Blue Devils. The winner of the Duke-OU match will face the winner between Stanford and Georgia on Saturday. The winner's side of the bracket is the quarterfinals match of the weekend with 6 teams at the tourney.

OU also defeated Stanford last year.

There will be a consolation bracket as well, if needed.

Here is the staff writers article about the weekend.

After their strong performance against #4 Duke on Friday, the Oklahoma Women Sooners Tennis Team faced Georgia in the quarterfinals of the ITA Indoors Championship on Saturday. The match started in an unusual way in the double match. The double point is usually a point won by the Sooners. Yesterday, Georgia took the point from OU as they won two of the three doubles matches, including defeating the Corley sisters in the #1 team match. Sleeth/Pisareva were Sooners doubles team that won 6-1 over Georgia.

That left the Sooners with needing 4 wins in the singles matches to win the match.

Alexandra Pisareva (#6 singles) gave the Sooners their first point as she won her match 6-1, 6-3. Georgia won the next two singles matches to finish at the #2 and #3 spots to take a 3-1 lead in points. Emma Straker (#5 singles) then put a point on the board for the Sooners in a comeback win 2-6, 6-1 and 7-5. Oklahoma trailed Georgia 3-2 and needed the next two singles matches.

In both the #1 and #4 singles, the matches went 3 sets. The Sooners came up short in both matches and Georgia won the match 5-2 to advance in the tourney.

Here is the staff writers article about the match against Georgia.

It was a tough loss for the Sooner Women. But the competition was very tough also.

The teams next action is at home to face Arkansas on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 10 a.m. CT at the Headington Family Tennis Center.

After I posted this this morning straight from the website, "The teams next action is at home to face Arkansas on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 10 a.m. CT at the Headington Family Tennis Center."

I was looking around and found that OU was playing Texas in a consolation round around noon.

The Sooners dropped the match 4-2 to the Longhorns. The Sooners did win the double point as #1 and #2 Sooner teams won their double match.

Taking a 1-0 lead into the Singles, the Sooners looked to be in good shape. In the first two singles matches to finish, Guzman won for the Sooners playing the #3 singles. But Texas then won the next three singles matches to win 4-2. The #1 Singles match was unfinished in the 3rd set.

Here is the staff writers article about the match.

Now, as I thought I had right this morning, The Sooners will return home to face Arkansas on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 10 a.m. CT at the Headington Family Tennis Center.
