OU Men's Basketball @ Baylor Wednesday-Can the Sooners Surprise?

Post by OUBeliever56A »

The Oklahoma Men's Basketball Team plays at Waco on Wednesday Night at 8 PM. Wednesday's game against the Bears will be broadcast on ESPNU starting at 8 p.m. CT with Mark Neely and Lance Blanks on the call. Fans may also listen on the Sooner Sports Radio Network (KRXO 107.7 FM The Franchise in Oklahoma City; KTBZ 1430 AM in Tulsa; Varsity Radio App) with Toby Rowland and Kevin Henry announcing.

Here is the staff writers article about the Baylor game on Wednesday.

https://soonersports.com/news/2023/2/7/ ... -wednesday

In the earlier game between Baylor and OU in LNC, Baylor made a 3-point shot with a hand in their face as the shot-clock expired to make the score 62-58 with only a few seconds left in the game. Hill made a last second bucket to make the final score 62-60 with Baylor winning a close game.

Baylor is lead by a trio of guards that lead the offensive attack for Baylor with a group of big men that rebound, protech the rim on defense and score when needed. It looks like Oklahoma has went to a 3-guard set of starting guards with Sherfield, Uzan and Cortes. With Noland, Oweh and maybe Bamisile helping the Sooners have a chance to slow down and equal the play of the Baylor guards. Inside T Groves, Hill, Godwin and J Groves must match the rebounding efforts of Baylor and counte with the scoring needed to keep pace also. But they must stay out of foul trouble throughout the game. With OU starting 3-guards and playing most of the game with that lineup, Hill can move inside to counter one of Baylor's big men on defense. One key not is that the Sooner guards will have to focus on rebounding on defense also.

I do not know if the Sooners can rise up and surprise the Baylor Bears in Waco or not. But, I am willing to give them shot at doing so before I dismiss the thought. Starting with Baylor on Wednesday night, the Sooners play Kansas at LNC, Kansas State at LNC and Texas in Austin. That is a very tough 4-game stretch against four of the top six Big 12 teams. If the Sooners can somehow win 2 of the 4, they can stay above .500 on the season.

Here is to giving the Sooners a chance on Wednesday night. Good luck to the Men.

In Monday Night action on the Big 12 Men's side of things, Kansas defeated Texas 88-80 in Lawrence, KS. Kansas won over the Longhorns despite the fact that Jalen Wilson only scored 2 points in the game due to foul trouble. Dick, Harris and McCuller stepped up and played well for Kansas. Kansas won both halves of play.

The result pulls the top 6 teams closer together in the Big 12 standings as Texas was a game in front in 1st Place. Two other Big 12 top-6 teams play tonight with TCU traveling to K-State. That should be a high-speed game with action in Manhattan.

After mid-week play, five of the top Big 12 teams should be within one game in the standings.

In action on Tuesday night in the Big 12, Kansas State drubbed TCU in Manhattan 82-61.

Injured Mike Miles did not play for TCU and Lampkin only played 18 minutes.

Lots of smoke & rumblings on Twitter about Kruger trying to go to ND. His buyout currently is $9M; apparently after April 1, it drops to $6M.

I assume you mean Moser rather than Kruger.

Based on his results at OU thus far, Moser would not be any great loss in my opinion. And this is coming from a guy who was very excited when we first hired him.

Uzan hits a big 3 at the buzzer to bring the Sooners back to a 6-point deficit. 41 -35 Bears at the half.

Sooners stayed within striking distance until the 3 minute mark of the second half but faded in the clutch losing 82-72.

The Oklahoma Sooners kept within winning distance last night in Waco before a late surge by Baylor as the Bears defeated the Oklahoma Men 82-72 in Big 12 play.

The Sooners trailed by 6 at halftime as Oklahoma's Milos Uzan nailed a 3 at the buzzer to decrease the Baylor lead. The Sooners did make a couple of runs at Baylor in the second half but the ability of Baylor to shot the ball AND get to the free throw line was the difference in the end. Once again the Sooners were on the short end of the free throw tallies as Ou shot only 6 of 12 from the charity stripe while Baylor was 19 of 26 from the free throw line. Those 13 points that Baylor scored easily can easily be shown as the difference maker in the game.

OU made more buckets than Baylor, 29 to 21. OU made 1 less three than Baylor, 8 to 9. OU shot better from the field, 49% to 47%. About the only stat that was not good for Ou was the 14 turnovers to Baylor's 7. But Baylor only scored 2 more points off of turnovers than OU did.

Here is the staff writers article about the loss to Baylor.

Coach Moser put a new starting five on the court. Freshman Oweh joined Hill, T Groves, Uzan and Sherfield to start the game. Joe Bamisile also played additional minutes in the game last night as he played 18 minutes. It was obvious the changes improved Oklahoma's quickness and athleticism on the floor. While both Oweh and Bamisile have flaws (Oweh- fouls and Bamisile - control at times) they added some zip, defense, and scoring threats to the team IMO. Coach Moser is trying to find a difference maker to help the Sooners. Uzan looked to score a bit more last night also. Four Sooners scored in double figures. Sherfield 15, Uzan 11, Oweh 10 and Bamisile 10. Hill and T Groves added 8, J Groves added 6 and Godwin scored 4.

OU matched rebounds with Baylor with 34 each and the same number of offensive boards.

This won't be popular, but I think the Sooners played better last night and had more options to score on the floor, which they need. Cortes and Noland are solid players, but neither are scorers which you have to have in the Big 12. Baylor is a Top 15 team and is playing well. To lose by 10 to them, is not a terrible thing. OU gave effort, they played pretty soundly. the free throw line made the difference. It is an old story.

Oklahoma plays at Kansas on Saturday in another very tough game in the Big 12.

Yes, meant Moser. And I agree with you. I would be happy to help load the moving van.
