From June 2022 - A Top 150 Players of 2022 - I missed this.

Post by OUBeliever56A »

I missed this article on D1 softball back in June. The Top 150 players were compiled by a D1 Softball writers. Here is the article.

ncaa.com/news/softball/article/2022-07-13/top-150-college-softball-players-2022

This is old, bit it does provide another perspective about the 2023 upcoming season.

Out of the Top 150 players in D1 Softball in 2022 according to D1 Softball, here were the Sooners: (Returning players are in bold)

#1 - Jocelyn Alo - DP
#3 - Tiare Jennings - 2B
#6 - Grace Lyons - SS
#10 - Jordy Bahl - SP
#22 - Jayda Coleman - CF

#32 - Hope Trautwein - SP
#74 - Alyssa Brito - LF
#96 - Jana Johns - 3B

The four 2023 transfers into the Sooners were also on the list of 150 players. Here are their rankings:

#9 - Cyndi Sanders - 1B
#34 - Haley Lee - DP/C
#50 - Alex Storako - SP
#105 - Alynah Torres - SS

That gives the Sooners 9 players in uniform for the 2023 season that were in the Top 150 players in D1 softball There are 7 players and 2 pitchers in that group of 9 players. The expected batting order for the Sooners looks like this perhaps:

- Jayda Coleman CF - #22 ranked
- Tiare Jennings 2B - #3 ranked
- Cyndi Sanders 1B - #9 ranked
- Kinzie Hansen C/DP - unranked but should return to 2021 form meaning a top 15 players is likely.
- Haley Lee DP/C - #34 ranked
- Grace Lyons SS - #6 ranked
- Alyssa Brito LF - #74 ranked
- Alynah Torres 3B - #105 ranked
- Rylie Boone RF - unranked but will hit .400 and play great defense.

SP - Jordy Bahl - #10 ranked and missed several starts in the Big 12 tourney, and playoffs.
SP - Alex Storako - #50 ranked

In essence the Sooners have traded the Alo the DP for the #34 ranked player in Lee. The Sooners have traded the #32 player in SP Trautwein with the #50 player in SP Storako. The Sooners have traded the #96 player in Johns with the #105 player in Torres at 3B. The Sooners have replaced an unranked player in Taylon Snow with the #9 player in Sanders at 1B.

In addition, the two players of Hansen and Boone are still going to be there for the Sooners with Hansen rebounding to her 2021 numbers and Boone continuing to improve. The Sooners also return Nicole May SP.

Pushing all of the players will be Jocelyn Erickson C/1B/DP/OF (Top 10 - 2022 recruit), Quincee Lilio OF/INF/DP, Grace Green DP/1B/OF, Hannah Coor OF, Sophia Nugent C/OF/DP, Avery Hodge SS (top 10 - 2022 recruit), and perhaps Jordy Bahl as a player.

In the circle, in addition to Bahl, Storako and May, the Sooners have added Deal LHP (#1-ranked - 2022 recruit - EIS) and SJ Geurin LHP (Top 20 - 2022 recruit)

Everything seems to be in place for a 3rd straight run at a National Championship!
