OU Volleyball - 2 Matches This Week - OU falls in 4-sets to TCU !

OU Volleyball - 2 Matches This Week - K-State Wed - TCU Friday

The Oklahoma Sooner Women's Volleyball Team will lay two matches this week in quick fashion. They will host the Kansas State Wildcats Wednesday night at 6 PM in McCasland Field House. Then quickly they will travel to Ft. Worth, TX for a Friday daytime match against TCU at 12:30 PM. The match on Wednesday will be on ESPN+ and the match on Friday will be on ESPNU.

The Sooners hold a 1-5 Big 12 record and an 11-7 overall record. Kansas State is 2-4 in Big 12 play and 11-8 overall. TCU is 4-3 in Big 12 play and 9-9- overall. The Sooners started the season very well playing to a 10-2 record in their preseason schedule. But upon entering the Big 12 schedule, the Sooners have sailed into rough waters. Oklahoma has won 7 and lost 15 sets in Big 12 play. They have also lost their last three matches. Oklahoma needs an important win tonight vs Kansas State to set up a chance to start a winning streak against TCU on Friday. Hopefully Morgan Perkins (FR- MB) will be available to play this week after missing the match last Saturday.

Here is the staff writers article about this week's action for the Sooner Volleyball team:

Good luck to the ladies this week against the Wildcats and the Horned Frogs.

The Sooner Women's Volleyball Team played well last night, perhaps the best they have played in recent weeks in the first two sets to win 25-20 and 25-15 over the Kansas State Wildcats. But Kansas State played themselves back into the match with wins in the 3rd and 4th sets by the score of 25-22 and 25-15 over the Sooners. The fifth and final set was tied at 11-11 after a successful kill. In the quick race to 15 points, the Wildcats won 4 of the next 6 points to take the decisive set 15-13. After being up 2 sets, the Oklahoma defeat by Kansas State had to disappoint the Sooners as they are trying to get back on the winning track. they now have lost 4 straight matches.

Here is the staff writers article about the OU-Kansas State match last night.

Looking at the stats for the match, the team that won the hitting % in the set won the set. The 5 set hitting % were only .032 apart with Kansas State hitting .227 to OU's .195. The total points by the two teams in the 5 sets were the same at 100-points for each side. It was a very close match in Sets 1, 3, and 5.

Oklahoma had four players with double digit points. Megan Wilson and Savannah Davison had 17.5 points on the night. Davison led with 17 kills and outside hitting % with a .289. Andria Oliver and Alexis Shelton had 10.5 and 10.0 points respectively. Megan Perkins added 9 points for the Sooners. Oliver and Wilson had 5 blocks with Perkins having 4.

Two Sooners had a double-double last night as Davison had the 17 kills and 10 digs and Chamberlain had 44 assists and 19 digs on the night. Callie Kemohah had 21 digs and was one assist away from a double-double as she had 9 assists. Kemohah also had 7 service aces.

In a match this close, the Sooners ended up just short on the points that mattered down the stretch in a couple sets.

The Sooners have to recover quickly today as they head to Ft. Worth for a match at 12:30 PM against TCU on Friday. The match is televised on ESPNU. TCU is 4-3 in the Big 12 and 9-9 overall. TCU did not play on Wednesday so they will be well rested. OU is 1-6 in the Big 12 and 11-8 overall. The match against TCU completes the first go-round through the Big 12 during conference play for the Sooners. Finishing with a win before starting the second go-round thru the Big 12 could help the Sooners immensely.

Good luck to the Sooners on Friday.

The Sooners Volleyball Squad completed the quick turnaround from Wednesday night and arrived in Ft. Worth today to play TCU at 12:30 PM.

The first set was a very competitive set with the score close almost the entire set. In the end, TCU prevailed 15-23 over Oklahoma. The second set and the third set were mirrors of each other as TCU won the 2nd set 25-19 and the Sooners winning the 3rd set by the same score 25-19. Oklahoma rallied in the 4th set to to trail 15-14 but TCU played well down the stretch and won the set and the match at 25-17. TCU won the match 3 sets to 1 set for Oklahoma.

Oklahoma falls to 11-9 overall and 1-7 in the Big 12. Oklahoma starts their second loop thru the Big 12 teams on Wednesday at McCasland Field House in a 6 PM first serve against Baylor. to complete their play next week they will travel to Lawrence, KS to play Kansas on Sunday at 3 PM.

The Sooners are talented but they are playing in a fairly tough conference, the Big 12. They are also very young compared to the other 8 teams it seems. After their promising start at 10-2 in the pre-season portion of their schedule, the conference play has been tough for the team. It would be a rewarding goal for the Sooners if they could improve their record the second time through the Big 12 to at least 3-5 to compile a .500 record for the season at 14-14.

Good luck to the Sooners in their remaining schedule this year.
