I would think they are honest with him. He is not a top 5* recruot and they have to do whats best for program. If he believes in his talents be will embrace competition. I like that the staff is doing this. I lkke Hawkins too so its not personal, but OU is goimg to a conf with sime tough D lines and higher risk of injury. We need capable backups on roster. If one looks at last year we had none. Can’t have that happen again. Next year even if JA is starter we’ll need good backups.!!!BOOM!!! 24 4* QB Michael Hawkins (Legacy)

Jones just committed to Cincinnati.

He posted this recently, so I think he's open to, and ready for, any competition that comes his way. Would we want someone that didn't feel this way:SoonerTony wrote: ↑Sun Jul 02, 2023 2:56 pmI wonder what Michael Hawkins thinks of the fact that OU is continuing to pursue Samaj Jones, even after securing a commitment from Hawkins? It seems pretty rare to take more than one QB in the same class.

We aversged scoring over 30 points last year with DG out a few games. No doubt he’ll be even better thos year. So a QB lookimg at OU sees:SoonerTony wrote: ↑Sun Jul 02, 2023 6:10 pm Jones just committed to Cincinnati.

1. Starter DG in 2nd year of offense who althoug will be gone next year will set the team up for handoff to:
2. Jackson Arnold who is not losing his job once he takes it
3. Hawkins 24 commit
4. Sperry 25 commit
This qb would have to beat 2/3/4. I have no problem losing a qb race atcthis point and we can be picky. Still want us to look and offer, but this is the one position I will kot lose sleep over. We also have other qbs on roster who will have learned and might help if in bad injury status.
The qb who went to Cinci chose new B12 over new SEC. He’ll play less good teams but he’ll have a higher chance of starting so I cannot blame the kid.
In Brent I Trust

I agree completely. OUr QB room is much stronger now and in the foreeseeable future than it has been in a long time. I know they were trying to flood the room with experience, but apparently those players never got past the playbook performance (practiced so poorly, they wouldn't see the field on game day).
I think that once we get back to competing in the SEC and playing for Conference Championships (not to mention qualifying for the new 12 team FBS playoffs), I think the rest of our recruiting issues will go away and we will once again will more easily compete for players with any one in the country.
