Sooner Women's Tennis teams ready for weekend action on Sat & Sun!

The Women's Tennis Team is in North Carolina for a 4 team tourney. The four teams are; OU, Furman (host team), Duke (#6) and Nebraska.

The OU Women's Tennis team (#17 ranked) was successful in the first round of their tourney yesterday as they defeated Furman 4-1 in North Carolina.

The OU Women won each of the singles matches that were completed yesterday.

#1 Player - Carmen Corley won 6-1 and 6-4 in an upset of Adams of Furman.
#2 Player - Layne Sleeth won 6-1, 6-2.
#4 Player - Anchisa Chanta won 5-7, 6-3, 6-2
#6 Player - Emma Staker won 6-4, 6-1
OU's, I Corley, #3 player, was trailing 6-2, 3-6, 3-4 when her match was stopped. A Pisareva, #5 player for OU, was in a tie at 4-6, 6-3, 4-4 when the match was stopped.

In doubles, Furman won both matches that were completed and was leading in the third contest when the play was stopped.

The Sooner Women (#17) will return to the court today at 1 PM to play #6 Duke in the finals.

The Sooners Women's Tennis Team made it two match wins in two days as they defeated #6 ranked Duke today 4-2. In doing so, the Sooners played their way to the ITA National Indoors tourney on Feb 11th through the 14th in Madison, WI.

In the doubles matches, OU's #1 doubles team of Ivana Corley/Carmen Corley defeated Duke 7-6 (7-2) in a tiebreaker. OU#2 double team of Layne Sleeth/Alexandra Pisareva downed Duke 7-5. OU's #3 doubles team was downed 6-1 by Duke.

In the singles, #3 Ivana Corley (OU) defeated Duke 7-5, 6-3. In the #4 singles, Anchisa Chanta (OU) topped Duke 7-6 (7-1), 6-4. the #6 OU singles player, Emma Staker (OU) won over Duke 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 in three sets.

The #2 singles match was unfinished with Layne Sleeth of OU was leading 3-6, 6-4 and 4-2.

Duke won the the #3 singles and the #5 singles matches.

The Sooner Women had a very successful weekend in North Carolina. Oklahoma could move up from their #17 rankings after this weekend.

The Women host New Mexico for a DH on Feb 5th, Saturday at 10 AM and 2 PM.
