On to the finals!
Sooner baseball found themselves down 6-0 after 2 innings but rallied to to tie with 5 in the 5th and 1 in the 6th at 6 all. It stayed that way until the bottom of the 9th when, with one on, Nicklaus hit a home run to win it for the Sooners.
Final OU 8 - Kansas 6. Opponent is TBD but either Ok St/ Texas Tech or UCF.
Correction - I misread the brackets. OSU must play Texas Tech and the winner plays UCF. The tournament is now single elimination.
Be that as it may, OU awaits the winner tomorrow for the championship. Winner takes all.

Ok St beat the Red Raiders and now must beat UCF to advance to tomorrow's championship game against the Sooners.
It has been hinted by some "experts " that a Sooners win will earn them a super-regional host spot.

It was a really strong comeback performance by the Sooner Baseball Team on Friday. To be able to come back from a 6-0 defecit after 2 innings shows just how much the team believes in itself. The relief pitching was very strong also. Grant Stevens with 5.1 innings of scoreless baseball was instrumental in the win as he kept Kansas off the board until the Sooners could tie the ballgame at 6-6 in the bottom of the 6th. Carson Atwood took the game to the 8th inning in relief after Stevens. Jett Lodes and Ryan Lambert got the final four outs to keep the score tied until the bottom of the 9th.
On offense, the winning blow was set up by Anthony Mackenzie's lead off single to open the bottom of the 9th. Jackson Nicklaus finished it with hit 2-run HR to RF as he pulled the pitch out of the field of play for the walk-off 8-6 victory for the Sooners.
Before that, Jaxon Willits added a 2-run HR in the 5th and a RBI double in the 6th for 3 of the 6 runs needed to tie the ballgame. Nicklaus and Kendall Pettis added the other three RBIs in the 5th to get the Sooners within 1 run after 5 innings trailing 6-5.
Six Sooners had 2 hits (Willits, Carmichael, Mackenzie, Nicklaus, Pettis and Walk) with Spikerman and Mudler adding the other to hits. The Sooners had 2 doubles and 2 HRs in the game. their 14 hits and 5 walks did offset 15 Ks as a team in the game. The Kansas pitcher, Easley, who had barely pitched this season tallied 11 Ks against the Sooners in 4.2 innings to start the game for Kansas.
The Sooners will play Oklahoma State in the Finals tonight at 6 PM. OSU won two ball games on Friday as they defeated Texas Tech 4-0 in thier first game and then defeating UCF 10-1 in the late game last night. The Cowboys used only three pitchers in the two games on Friday which is very surprising.
It will be interesting how both teams handle the pitching choices today. OU has used all of their starters since Wednesday. Maybe Braden Davis can come back and throw maybe 4 innings today on a normal throwing day after starting on Wednesday today. Maybe Kyson Witherspoon can provide an inning or two also after starting on Thursday. The bullpen will have to step up today for the Sooners. I imagine the Cowboys will be in the same boat, but perhaps more so as they used two starters on Friday and they probably can not pitch today.
Good luck to the Sooners in the Big 12 Finals today. A Win would almost lock-in a Top 8 Regional seeding which could lead to hosting both the regionals and the supers.

The article I read indicated that OU has an RPI = 14, but winning the regular season and tournament crowns should be enough to push them into the top 8.

Yes it’s a selection committee decision. They go by many factors, including RPI, “body of work”, “eye test”. All the usual.SwampSooner wrote: ↑Sat May 25, 2024 9:28 amThe article I read indicated that OU has an RPI = 14, but winning the regular season and tournament crowns should be enough to push them into the top 8.
