Just How Big of a Committment was Tristan Haynes

Post by WishBone »

Sure, the Sooners kicked things off by landing an elite transfer portal defensive tackle in Damonic Williams. But just a few days later, OU went back to the 2025 recruiting class for a major add.

Trystan Haynes revealed his commitment to Oklahoma on Tuesday the 11th, choosing to stay home and continue his career in-state. This gave OU an elite talent, nationally renowned defensive back prospect from just down the road at Carl Albert High School.
According to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Player Rankings, the world of recruiting sees Haynes as the No. 151 overall recruit in the 2024 recruiting class. The four-star also rates as a top-20 cornerback in the nation at No. 18 and a top-four player in the state of Oklahoma. As for the 247Sports Network's specific rankings, though, our panel of national experts are even higher on Haynes' abilities. There, Haynes checks in as a top-120 overall prospect within the Top247 of the '25 cycle at No. 119 nationally. He's considered one of the top-12 corners in the country by 247Sports and stands as a top-three player inside the Sooner State.

Haynes is the second-highest ranked commit for Oklahoma in this new-look 2025 pledge class. Because of the caliber of player just landed, the Sooners saw a surge up the class rankings courtesy of Haynes.

Oklahoma is now inside the top-four of the 2025 recruiting class rankings, moving up two spots from sixth to fourth in the standings. The Sooners move past USC and Clemson with this boost upward.

Oklahoma's 2025 class features a points total of 225.05, just 10.34 points behind the third-place team nationally in the LSU Tigers. This also means the Sooners still feature a top-two class in the SEC and are just 10.34 points behind the top-spot in the Southeastern Conference. A class comprised of 10 four-stars and five three-stars, OU has eight defensive recruits and seven offensive prospects committed.

It's also worth noting that Oklahoma's per commit average sits at a 90.40 rating. The Sooners are top-20 nationally in this metric at No. 18 overall.

But Oklahoma still has plenty of work to do. A few more known decision dates are pending and other dominos could easily fall in May.

It's still early in the 2025 cycle as the recruiting calendar shifts into the summer. Official visit season is arriving and the decisions that usually come with will ultimately shape the rankings even further. But for now, Oklahoma climbing into the top-four off the addition of an impressive in-state recruit is no small feat.
