The 18th Ranked Oklahoma Sooner Baseball Team has a big a big week of play scheduled this week. The Sooners will play four games at home with a game on Tuesday with Wichita State and then host Texas for a Big 12 three-game series on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The Sooners are 24-14 overall and are 14-4 in Big 12 play.

On Tuesday, Wichita State will be in Norman with their 21-19 record. Oklahoma has already defeated the Shockers twice this season. The Sooners won 5-3 on March 5th and 11-2 on April 2nd. Since the Sooners dropped all three games to Lamar, the Sooners are 9-2 with 7 wins in a row, six in Big 12 play.

On offense, the Sooners are led by a quartet of Sooners; Easton Carmichael, Michael Snyder, Bruce Madron and Anthony Mackenzie. Between the four players that are hitting about .345 with an .445 OB% and about a .600 Slug% as a group. Together they have hit 52 doubles, 8 triples and 25 HRs. With that production in the middle of the lineup, the Sooners are scoring well on offense. The Sooners right now are playing without two starters, John Spikerman and Jackson Nicklaus. Jason Wark and Isaiah Lane are filling in well for them. Kendall Pettis, Jaxon Willits and Scott Mudler round out the starters most of the time.

On the mound, the Sooners are using primarily four starting pitchers with Kyson Witherspoon, Grant Stevens, Bandon Girton and Braden Davis getting the starting assignments lately. The bullpen has come together lately with Ryan Lambert, Dylan Crooks, Reid Hensley, Carson Atwood and Malachi Witherspoon throwing well.

The Oklahoma Sooners Baseball Team ran their winning streak to 8 games as they defeated the Wichita State Shockers 3-1 on Tuesday night at L. Dale Mitchell Park. The night was filled with strong pitching by both teams as the 4 runs were scored in the bottom of the 3rd ( 3 runs by OU ) and the top of the 4th ( solo HR by WSU ). Sixteen pitchers were used between the two teams as WSU used 9 and OU used 7 pitchers.

Six of the seven pitchers for the Sooners pitched very well on the night as the six hurlers allowed 4 hits including 2 doubles and a triple, 1 walk and earned 7 strikeouts in their 8.0 innings of pitching. Wichita State's lone run was on a leadoff solo HR to lead of the 4th inning. Carter Campbell was credited with the Win for Oklahoma as he entered the game after the solo HR in the 4th and pitched the 4th and the 5th innings allowing no hits with 1 strikeout. Malachi Witherspoon earned a save as he pitched the 9th in 1, 2, 3, fashion for Oklahoma.

Al of Oklahoma's runs came in the 3rd inning as Isaiah Lane walked with 1 out. John Spikerman (making a start as he returned to the lineup) followed the Lane walk with one of his own walk to push runners to 1st and 2nd. Bryce Madron doubled to RF to plate Lane to give OU the 1-0 lead. With two runners in scoring position, Easton Carmichael singled up the middle to plate both Spikerman and Madron for the 3-0 lead. Despite a walk and a stolen base, the Sooners did not score an additional run in the inning.

In addition to Spikerman's start, Jackson Nicklaus also returned to the lineup at DH in the game last night.

The Sooners 3-1 win was in stark contrast to the weekend of high scoring games where OU just outhit the BYU Cougars. The pitching staff pitched very well on Tuesday night. It would be a big boost to the Sooners if they could continue this weekend against the Texas Longhorns.

Here is to the Sooners getting ready now for the 3-game series versus Texas this weekend on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
