Sooner Men's Golf in Trinity, TX for the Big 12 Champ'ships M->W

The Oklahoma Men's Golf Team will be in Trinity, Texas this week Monday thru Wednesday at the Big 12 Championships trying to pick up a 3-peat in the Big 12 Championships. Tjhe Oklahoma Men's Golf Team seeks its third straight, and 20th overall, conference championship next week when it heads to Whispering Pines Golf Club in Trinity, Texas, for the 2024 Big 12 Championships.

Teams will play 36 holes on Monday at The Pines, followed by 18 holes on Tuesday and Wednesday to determine a team and individual champion.

Oklahoma's lineup card features Drew Goodman, Ben Lorenz, Jase Summy, Ryder Cowan and Stephen Campbell Jr. Luke Kluver is Oklahoma's substitute. The Sooners tee off on Monday with the Red Raiders and Longhorns at 7:30 a.m. CT.

After a morning round of 8-over par, 296, the Oklahoma Sooners rallied in the afternoon round to get themselves back in the Big 12 Championships with a nice 2-under round of 286. When the day was over, The Sooners were at 6-over, 582 and in a Tie for 5th Place. Their morning round put the Sooners in 8th. The afternoon round, the 2nd best score in the round, lifted them to their 5th Place position. Out of 28 rounds played yesterday, only 7 rounds were under par with no team having two for the day.

- BYU finished the day in 1st Place with their 1-under, 575 after rounds of 5-under and 4-over.
- Texas sits in 2nd Place at Even Par, 576 with rounds of 3-under and 3-over.
- Oklahoma State is in 3rd Place at 3-over, 579. they had rounds of 7-over and 4-under.
- Baylor is in 4th Place at 5-over, 581 with rounds of Even Par and 5-over.
- OU and Houston are tied in 6th at 6-over, 582. (See OU's rounds above). Houston shot rounds 1-under and 7-over.
- Texas Tech is in 7th at 11-over, 587 with rounds of +10 and +1.
- Three teams are tied in 8th Place at 12-over, 588. The three teams are Kansas State, Kansas and West Virginia.

Individually, four (4) Sooners shot 2-over, 146, for the day while playing 36 holes. The final Sooner shot 7-over par, 151.

Stephen Campbell, Jr - 74-72 = 146 and 2-over.
Jace Summy - 76-70 = 146 and 2-over.
Ryder Cowan -71-75 = 146 and 2-over.
Drew Goodman - 77-69 = 146 and 2-over.
Ben Lorenz - 75-76 = 151 and 7-over.

If you look at the round, the Sooners played the Par3 very poorly. The Sooners were 21-over par on the Par 3s. That was 14th among the 14 Big 12 Teams. They were the best team on Par 4s with a 3-over par total. they were 5th on the Par 5s with a 9-under par total. The Sooners also led the Championship with 119 Pars, was 2nd with 1 Eagle and 11th with 26 birdies. That leaves 34 holes played in a bogey or worse by the Sooners. that is 18.9% of the holes that they played.

The Sooners tee off from 8:40 to 9:30 today and will play with Baylor and Houston. The Sooners need a good score today to position themselves for the final round on Wednesday.

The Oklahoma Sooners Men's Golf Team once again shot the 2nd best round in consecutive rounds in the Big 12 Championships. They did the same thing in the afternoon round on Monday when they shot 2-under, 286. On Tuesday, they shot 8-under par, 280 to vault themselves into 2nd Place in the Tourney through 54 holes with a 2-under total. West Virginia also shot 8-under, 280 on Tuesday to push themselves into the 5th spot in the standings at 4-over par through 54 holes.

Texas, however, shot a 13-under round of 275 to take over 1st Place at 13-under Par through 54 holes. Oklahoma State is at 1-under through 54 holes an is in 3rd Place. Houston is at 3-over Par through 54 holes and is in 4th Place.

The Sooners and the Cowboys have a lot of work to do today if they are going to overtake Texas today for the Big 12 Title a OU trails by 11 and OSU trails by 12.

For the Sooners individually, Ryder Cowan led the the Sooners on Tuesday with a nice 5-under 67 to move himself to 3-under through 54 holes and into 8th place individually. (1st place is at 8-under for 54 holes.) Jace Summy added a 3-under par 69 to lower his score to 1-under through 54 holes and into a tie for 11th Place. Drew Goodman shot 2-under on Tuesday to move himself to Even Par through 54 holes and into a tie for 15th place. Stephen Campbell Jr had a nice round going until the final two holes on Tuesday and finished with a 2-over 74 to finish at 4-over par through 54 holes. He is a in a tie for 30th place. Ben Lorenz shot a 5-over 77 and is at 12-over through 54 holes. The Sooners will replace Lorenz today in the lineup with Luke Kluver.

The Sooners tee off starting at 9:30 through 10:10 this morning. The Sooners will be plying with Texas and Oklahoma State in today's round. The 4th, 5th and 6th Place (Baylor) will be playing in front of the Sooners. The Big 12 Championships will be televised on ESPN+ will be on at 11:30 Central. The Sooners should be finishing with their first nine holes about that time.

After being 21-over par on Par 3's on Monday through two rounds, the Sooners played the Par 3 much better in just 1 over par on Tuesday. They shot 3-under on Par 4's and 1-under on Par 5's on Tuesday as a team. The Sooners tallied 63 pars, 17 birdies and 10 other scores of bogeys or higher.

Good luck to the Sooners today as they try to chase down the Longhorns to win the Big 12 Championships. It will take a very good round and some help from the Longhorns for OU to challenge for first place.

The Oklahoma Sooners turned in another top round on Wednesday as they shot the 3rd best round on Wednesday with a 5-under round of 283. That placed the Sooners in 2nd Place at 7-under Par with 1145 strokes in the Big 12 Championship. But the red-hot Texas Longhorns finished in 1st Place with another sterling round of 12-undr Par 276 on Wednesday to finish at 25-under Par with 1127 strokes to win the Championship by 18 strokes.

Oklahoma trailed Texas by 6 strokes after 36 holes at the end of play on Monday. In the two final rounds Oklahoma shot 13-under. Texas shot 25-under in the final two rounds.

Oklahoma State finished in 3rd Place at 2-under Par with 1150 strokes. Baylor finished in 4th Place at 3-over Par with 1155 strokes.

Freshman Ryder Cowan shot his 3rd sub-par round of the tourney on Wednesday as he shot 4-under 68. His rounds were 71, 75, 67 and 68 for a 281 total and 7-under Par. That was good enough to place Cowan in a Tie for 4th Place in the Tourney, individually.

Sophomore Jace Summy shot a 2-under 70 on Wednesday for his 3rd sub-par round. Summy shot 76, 70, 69, 70 for a 3-under Par 285. He finished in a Tie for 11th. He missed making the All-Tournament Team by one shot.

Junior Drew Goodman shot an Even Par 72 on Wednesday. Goodman shot rounds of 77, 69, 70, 72. He finished at Even Par at 288 and in a Tie for 15th.

Redshirt-Junior Stephen Campbell Jr shot a 2-over Par 74 on Wednesday. Campbell shot rounds 74, 72, 74, 74. He shot 6-over par for a 294 and in a Tie for 34th

Playing in his only round of the tourney, Redshirt Luke Kluver shot a 1-over 73. Kluver replaced Senior Ben Lorenz who had shot 12-over Par in the first three rounds for the Sooners.

With their 2nd Place finish the Sooner swill now wait for the Regional assignments of the NCAAs on the NCAA Golf Selection Show on May 1 at 1 p.m. on Golf Channel. Oklahoma has appeared in 12 straight NCAA Regionals and has advanced to the NCAA Finals every year since 2011 — the second-longest streak in the nation.

Thanks for the updates. Good to see them rally back from the poor first round. With Texas playing as well as they did, we couldn't afford to throw away a round and expect to have a shot at winning. But, it's always nice to beat the pokes.
