The Oklahoma men's gymnastics team registered the highest team score of the NCAA Championships qualifying round on Friday to advance to its 24th consecutive NCAA Finals. The No. 2-seeded Sooners posted a 418.957 to edge No. 3 Michigan, which scored 418.954 in the evening session of the qualifier, held at the Ohio State's Covelli Center. Michigan did suffer a 1 point penalty for probably an incorrect substitution or incorrect order of performers which moved Michigan under the Sooners.

Oklahoma head coach Mark Williams said, "I'm a little bit in awe at just how well prelims went. "We just looked comfortable and poised. It was one of those nights where everything came together pretty easily, and the guys hit 100%. Finishing with the high score over both sessions certainly suggests that we're in the hunt for a national championship. We'll go back and get rested and be ready to fight for that tomorrow."

The Sooners won two events and was second in the other four events in the evening session of the Semis. Oklahoma won the Pommel with a 70.332 and the Vault with 72.866. They were second in the Floor with a 69.465, Rings with a 67.999, Parallel Bars with a 70.364 and the High Bar with a 67.931.

Junior Emre Dodanli placed first on floor exercise with a 14.866 routine and freshman Max Bereznev won vault with his second 15.000 of the season.

The Oklahoma Men's Gymnastics Team finished the season at the NCAA Finals in 3rd Place behind Stanford and Michigan with a 412.956 score. Stanford's posted a 425.324 score for 1st Place and Michigan's scored 419.689 in 2nd Place. Nebraska (412.427) placed fourth, Illinois (411.659) placed fifth and Ohio State (399.122) placed sixth.

Redshirt sophomore Fuzzy Benas took home bronze in the all-around and the Oklahoma men's gymnastics team placed third in the finals of the NCAA Championships Saturday evening at Ohio State's Covelli Center.

Four Sooners earned a total of six All-America honors by placing in the top 8 on their respective events. Benas earned All-America status in the all-around, on vault and on parallel bars. Junior Emre Dodanli claimed All-America honors on floor exercise and parallel bars, freshman Max Bereznev earned All-American status on vault and freshman Nico Hamilton earned an All-America honor on floor exercise.

"I'm really pleased with this team," Head Coach Mark Williams said. "We've improved a lot from the beginning of the year. We're a relatively young group, and to finish third in the country at the national championship is a huge accomplishment. We had a great day yesterday and had a few mistakes today. Stanford is a formidable champion and had a great night, and they had no mistakes, and Michigan is a good team. Yesterday we were a little higher scoring, but we fought to the end today and I can't fault their effort."
