OU Men's Golf @ The Thunderbird: in Regular Season Finale in PHX

Post by OUBeliever56A »

The Oklahoma Men's Golf Team is in Phoenix, AZ for The Thunderbird at Papago Golf Club. The two-day, 54-hole event tees off on Friday morning and teams will play 36 holes before wrapping up the event with the final round on Saturday.

The Sooners won the event in 2022, firing a 821 (-31) to hold off the Sun Devils and a loaded field. The team's 821 was the fifth-lowest 54-hole score in tournament history. Oklahoma has produced one medalist — Jeff Mixon in 1997, who finished at 7-under.

Here is the Sooner staff writers article about the event.

Oklahoma's lineup card features Ryder Cowan, Drew Goodman, Ben Lorenz, Stephen Campbell Jr. and Jase Summy.

Good luck to the Sooner Men in the tournament.

The Oklahoma team started teeing off on Hole #10 this morning at 8:56 AM this morning. The Sooners go off in the first three tee times on Hole #10. Scores should be coming soon.

It looks like that Jake Holbrook will be a playing member of the team this weekend instead of Drew Goodman. Goodman will play as an individual in the tourney.

The Oklahoma Sooner Men's golf Team could not rally as needed on Saturday as they shot a 2-over par 286 to finish at Even Par 852 for The Thunderbird. That placed the Sooners in 11th Place in the tourney. Arizona State, the host shot a very good 38-under par for a 814 total. OU finished behind four other Big 12 teams in the tourney. Baylor finished at 1-under par, Texas Tech was at 2-under par, Houston was 3-under par and Oklahoma State was 10-under par. I mention that because this was the final regular season tourney as the Big 12 teams will play in the Big 12 Championships at Whispering Pines GC in Trinity, Texas, from April 22-24. Oklahoma has won back-to-back Big 12 titles and three since 2018. The championship is Oklahoma's last as a Big 12 member.

Here is the Sooner staff writers article about the final 18 holes on Saturday.

The Sooners posted enough birdies on Saturday with 16, but they also carded 18 bogeys and 1 double bogey amongst their five team members. Here is how the Sooners finished on Saturday.

- Jace Summy was the only Sooner team member that shot under par on Saturday as he shot a 1-under 70. His total was 1-over for the 54 holes and finished in a tie for 34th in the tourney.
- Ben Lorenz shot a 1-over par 72 on Saturday for a 2-under total for 54 holes to finished in a tie for 11th Place.
- Both Ryder Cowan and Stephen Campbell Jr shot a 1-over par 72 and finished at 3-over par for 54 holes and finished in a tie for 52nd.
- Jake Holbrook shot a 2-over par 73 on Saturday and finished at 6-over par for the 54 holes and finished in a tie for 70th Place.

- Playing as an individual, Drew Goodman shot a very nice 6-under par 65 on Saturday to finish at 4-under for the 54 holes and a tie for 11th Place.

The Sooners have a full week to work on their games and to decide which five Sooners to send out for the team before the Big 12 Championships in Trinity, Texas next Monday through Wednesday on the 22nd to 24th.
