Video of the First OU Softball Practice: Good things I noticed !

Post by OUBeliever56A »

Some very good things I noticed: (listed in order)

- Cydney Sanders on the field with a dirty tee shirt practicing.
- McEnroe-Marinas is taking ground balls on the field in practice. I did not expect this at all.
- Coor is on the field practicing.
- Coleman is in the infield on the dirt taking ground balls. Surprised at this.
- Torres with a good looking swing.
- Pickering watching a line drive to LF? Was it high enough to watch just watch it?

Is a "wing" her throwing arm?
Did Pickering hit that liner to left field?

Thanks for the head's up on the Torres 'wing', I corrected it to swing.

It was Pickering, I am guessing and the line drive and was it high enough to just watch!

Your note on Coleman reminded me that when Jayda arrived she said several times that she wanted to play SS in college and also that she told PG that she would play SS in at least 1 game for OU before she left. It will be interesting to see if that happens.

In the Plank Interview on Tuesday, Coach Gasso talked about Coleman being used at 2B in practice. At some point, Coleman told Coach Gasso, "I am good in CF!"

But this would be way to get Pickering, Boone and Coor into the outfield. I think Coleman could work at 1B, actually. But why move the best CF in the game? You can say that about Jennings probably as well, maybe even about Brito at 3B too. And it seems that those two moves will be made some for 2024.

It is a conundrum for the coaches.

There's not a chance in the world I'd move the best centerfielder in the game to the infield against a competitive opponent. However, I'm obviously not nearly as smart, nor do I know the team as well as Patty, and she's shown in the past she's not afraid to put her less-experienced players in tough situations to see how they handle it. She's been more than willing to risk a loss by seeing how her team responds to adverse conditions. So who knows what we'll see this year? Wouldn't surprise me to see some interesting lineups at times just so she can see how her younger players react.

Hey! Is that Riley Ludlam wearing Kinzie's mask?

My hunch is that Coach will get Jayda into a game, for an inning or maybe two, in the infield. I kinda feel like PG would keep her word to Jayda about this....unless Jayda doesn't want to try it. It's an honor thing...and a fun thing! Personally, I'd love to see it!!!

I have seen a picture, maybe it was in the photo shoot video, where there were two masks that were that 'jet black'. Ludlam was wearing hers, Kinzie's was on the floor, I think. I also saw a pic or in a video where there was a black and white helmet for Kinzie.

Imagine being Ludlam. Four years at Fordham and then her last year at OU........I bet she is thinking, "This is nice gear! Am I in heaven or what?"

Boy, I'm sure glad practice started last week so they could get some real outdoor on the field practice in before this Arctic air mass slammed into us.

I wonder if there are any indoor facilities on campus that would be large enough for the team to field some grounders and fly balls indoors?

Even top ranked teams such as ours needs some time to knock the rust off and get in as much practice as possible.....and Mom Nature ain't helping any!

The Sooners use the Big Metal Building (indoor football field) to practice in cold weather. The hit and even scrimage in there.

If the new Love's Field batting practice and practice field is finished they can used that also. But I doubt that is totally finished.

The still have the indoor batting cages and pitching lanes at Marita Hynes though.
