Big 12 Men's Basketball: Standings, Rankings, NET & Jan 6 games

Post by OUBeliever56A »

Here are the complete rankings (AP and Coaches), NET rankings and Jan 6th, opening day schedules for the Big 12 Men's basketball teams.

Team ----------- Record ---- AP ----- Coaches ---- NET
Houston -------- 13-0 ------- #3 --------- #3 ----------- #1
Kansas ---------- 12-1 ------ #2 ---------- #2 ---------- #11
BYU ------------- 12-1 ------ #12 -------- #12 ---------- #2
Oklahoma ------ 12-1 ------ #13 -------- #11 --------- #28
Baylor ----------- 11-2 ----- #19 -------- #18 ---------- #16
Texas ------------ 11-2 ----- #20 ------- #24 ----------- #53
Iowa State ----- 11-2 ----- RV31 ------ RV29 ---------- #8
TCU ------------- 11-2 ------ NA -------- RV30 --------- #42
Cincinnati ------ 11-2 ------ NA --------- NA ----------- #37
Texas Tech ----- 11-2 ------ NA --------- NA ----------- #52
Kansas State --- 10-3 ------ NA -------- NA ----------- #94
UCF -------------- 9-3 ------- NA -------- NA ----------- #69
Okla State ------ 8-5 ------- NA -------- NA ---------- #125
West Virginia --- 5-8 ------- NA -------- NA ---------- #165

Notice that the Big 12 has nine (9) teams in the top 50 Net rankings and twelve (12) teams in the top 100 team of the NET rankings. That simply means that the NET rankings of all of the Big 12 teams will trend upwards for the remainder of the year. That only has positive effects for the league's teams.

Here is the opening round of games for the first weekend of Big 12 games on Saturday, Jan 6th:

TCU at Kansas - 1 PM CST - CBS = Should be a very good game for National TV at PM. Can TCU give the Jayhawks trouble? We will have to see on Saturday.

West Virginia at Houston - 1 PM CST - ESPN+ = West Virginia is down without their long time coach. Houston should put on a show.

Baylor at Oklahoma State - 2 PM CST - ESPN+ = Baylor is used to the crowd in Stillwater. Talent wins the game for Baylor.

Iowa State at Oklahoma - 5 PM CST - ESPN+ = In what may be the 2nd or 3rd best Big 12 game of the weekend, this one could be very close. I guess the NET ranking for the Cyclones means something. We will see if athleticism wins out over basketball players in this one. The Sooners probably need a good start in the Big 12 more than the Cyclones.

UCF at Kansas State - 5 PM CST - ESPN+ = Another good game this weekend. We will see how UCF handles K-State with a 20-slot advantage in NET.

Texas Tech at Texas - 7 PM CST - ESPN2 = Can Texas Tech rise up and defeat Texas in Austin? Again, the 2nd or 3rd best game on Saturday in the conference. Texas plays for pride.

Cincinnati at BYU - 9 PM CST - ESPN2 = Two new Big 12 teams playing at altitude in Utah. Can BYU live up to their NET ranking? Can Cincy, pick up an upset on the road.

[Edit: I updated the records and the NET Rankings on Jan 6th.]
