Sooner qbs in NFL history
I was looking at Sooner NFL qb stats and decided to share _
Baker Mayfield 38-45 w-l
61.7% 19,603 yds 122 Tds 72 Ints
Sam Bradford 34-48-1
62.5% 19,449 yds 103 Tds 61 Ints
Kyler Murray 27-34-1
66.4% 14,923 yds 88Tds 45 Ints
Jalen Hurts 33-15
63.4% 11,214 yds 63 Tds 31 Ints
Jack Jacobs
44.2% 3,258 yds 27 Tds 49 Ints
Landry Jones
63.9% 1,310 yds 8Tds 7 Ints
I decidedto do this thread after realizing that at this point Baker has played the same number of games as Sam .In addition I added all other Sooner qbs that I know of who have actually played qb in the league .For those who do not recognize Jack Jacobs he was known as Indian Jack at OU and spent his career 1942-'49 with the Cleveland Rams .

Too bad Aikman is not on the list. But we went back to the college QB GAME OF wishbone QB after Aikman broke his leg
Looks like a weaker list than I would have thought. Also the weakest passer Hurts has the best record Just goes to show you it is a team game ….

It's kind of important to take into account that the worst teams get the earliest picks in the draft. So, typically, if you're a high draft pick (which most of our QBs were) you're likely headed to a bad team and your W-L record probably isn't going to be great, at least early in your career.waddy's ghost wrote: ↑Thu Dec 21, 2023 8:18 am I was looking at Sooner NFL qb stats and decided to share _

I wonder if Hurts benefited from NOT being a #1 pick like the ones above him? I believe it did.
That's odd, Fly. I always thought when Hurts was here he wouldn't make it in the NFL.

Me too. After being used to Baker and then Kyler, Jalen didn't seem to be quite as good at OU. But he's on a good team, and the Eagles do a good job of using his running ability. He took his team to the Super Bowl last season and came within a whisker of winning it.

Hurts can scramble and take off running better than Mayfield and especially Bradford, which helps him a lot. He's pretty stout and muscled up, too. Also, in fairness to the other QB's from OU, I can't think of any of them who often enough had good protection from their Oline
Same for me I thought Hurts was an excellent college qb that would not cut it in the NFL. I do agree with the poster above that said not being drafted early is a blessing for a qb because the first couple of QBs drafted ALWAYS go to bad teams. Hurts went later to a good team. When Hurts was here he was not a competent passer when moving left and generally could not throw accurately beyond about 25 yards. But the Eagles did not need that from a QB …. Kyler Baker Bradford all went to terrible teams that had nothing to complement the QB also the terribleness led to constant coaching turn over.Triple Option wrote: ↑Thu Dec 21, 2023 4:44 pmMe too.
