Launched out of a decade of mediocrity (61-50-3 ) . By contrast Bob was 109-24 in his first decade . And oh yeah a Ntional Title .

Always been a Bobby Stoops guy.
Was in the Swarm at the time.
There was some spirited discussion at the Cross Eyed Moose, where we met weekly.
I remember my buddy horsefly wanted Jim Donnan in the worst way.
I was a Bobby Stoops guy from THIS DAY he was announced as Joe C's hire replacing John Blake.
(***Personal note*** I had 2 first cousins on my mother's side, who played college football for Tulsa.
Doug Desherow(R.I.P.) played safety & corner for the Hurricane.
Blake was on the Tulsa staff at the time, and he told me,..."Blake was a great guy, and a better coach than most thought,...but dumb as a rock."
His words, not mine.
But it sort of confirmed my suspicions that Blake was hired mainly on Barry Switzer's advocacy.
Good, maybe even great recruiter, but not really a viable candidate as the HC for the OKLAHOMA SOONERS.
BOB STOOPS, the BoB-father of modern day SOONER Football took over in 1999.
In 2000, Bob Stoops WON THE NATL. TITLE! OU's 7th! Horsefly & me & 7 others formed the Crimson Reign Tailgate Club.
Tough times then. After the Norman town drunk Schnellenberger's .500 season and the 3 yr. death march of John Blake ( who you'd be right in guessing I defended...like Riley & Grinch after him(them).
Misguided? Maybe. But that's just me.
I 've always been one to put my back against the back of the man in the arena!
YOU DA MAN! Got your six, Coach! That kind of attitude!!!

I SIDE THE OKLAHOMA SOONER FOOTBALL PROGRAM!
I'm the most blatant example of "chinaman" mentality and expectations.
It is sheer force of will that keeps me from joining in with the critics and cynics of SOONER football.
It would be so easy to.
BUT, I CAN'T HELP IT!
It ain't a "thinking" thing.
Every single time I've attended an OU Football Game...and the crowd sings the chant...
"'Neath the Western Sky, OU's chant will never die...LIVE ON UNIVERSITY"
I get those allergy eyes.
That frog in my throat.
That soaring elation of a moment in time standing with my people in OUr church.
That palace on the prairie.
That Snake Pit!
That little blue-collar, Native America, flyover State, that STANDS eye to eye with ALL the Titans of college football!
YEAH,...THAT'S MY TEAM!
OKLAHOMA'S IS right where it needs to be.
This new Conference, the programs and their fans, think OKLAHOMA is going to be exposed,...and I KNOW they're going to be shocked!
All due respect...BUT, also always thought Bob's wife Carol was smoking hot!

...yes,...he was Horsefly in those days.
"Fly" is a little hipper,...so I see why he changed it.
One of the best SOONER Fans I ever met,...a guy I love to this day.
(Like me, he married up.)
Most men do!
I love you to my good freind. We have had soooo many good times together. I must say there is another guy on here Both Chinaman & I had such great times with OU GENO! Talk about a guy that will keep
You laughing the whole time you are around him. I,m glad to see him post from time to time. He is another true Sooner of that time
In our lives I will Never forget. Life is is a journey, & you meet people that impact your like in such loving ways. I cherish those times
So much.Going to away games a bunch of us sitting around in hotel rooms the night before a game & partying. We would laugh so hard I
Would fall out of my chair to the floor laughing. Not many fans experienced the great times we as a Sooner brother hood had.
