"Thanks" on this board

This may be a dumb question, but here goes...

Are the thumbs up icon and "thanks" on this board equivalent to "likes" on other message boards?

I've used the thumbs up icon a few times like it is.

It can mean "Thanks for posting" or "I agree with what you said"

I guess if you are on the side of the road when you click on it, it could mean "I need a ride". :lol:
