Updated Career Sooner Stats after 2023 Season - Many New Top 10s

Post by OUBeliever56A »

This will be a long email with lots of numbers and stats, I will likely split the post across a couple of posts on this topic. I promised to provide a complete update of the Oklahoma Career stats for the current players some time ago. I finally got to it. Here is the info.

For Career Games, Grace Lyons jumped all the way to 4th on the Oklahoma Career List. If Lyons had not missed the 7 games that she missed in 2023, she could have finished in 2nd place all time with 271 Games.
Career Games
1st Mindy Johnson 94-97 277
2nd Jocelyn Alo ‘18-22 267
3rd Casey Dickson 94-97 265
4th Grace Lyons 19-23 264 G 261 GS
5th Sydney Romero 16-19 258
6th Norrelle Dickson 04-07 257
7th Kristin Vesely 03-06 256
T-9th Kelli Braitsch 00-03 255
T-9th Falepolina Aviu 16-19 255
T-10th Caleigh Clifton 16-19 254
T-10th Nicole Pendley 15-18 254
T-10th Erin Evans 00-03 254

For Career At Bats, no current player jumped into the Top 10 in 2023 but Tiare Jennings put herself in position to do that after the 2024 season. Jennings now has 562 at bats. She will need 168 at bats to reach the 730 at bats needed to be in the Top 10 for Oklahoma.

For Career Hits, no current player jumped into the Top 10 in 2023 but 3 players are in position to do so in 2024. Jennings leads the way with 221 hits currently. Coleman follows with 211 and Hansen has 198 career hits. The 10th spot on the list is currently held by Shay Knighten with 247 hits. Lisa Carey sets in 5th spot with 289 hits.

For Career Runs Scored, 3 current players jumped in the top 10 in 2023. Here is the list. Grace Lyons led the way with 227 career runs scored in 7th place. Tiare Jennings finished in 8th place with 221. Jayda Coleman is in 9th with 211 runs scored. Both Jennings and Coleman have the chance to take the #1 spot in the career runs scored position from Jocelyn Alo in 2024.
RUNS SCORED
1. 281 Jocelyn Alo '18-22
2. 272 Lauren Chamberlain ‘12-15
3. 234 Norrelle Dickson ’04-07

8th. 221 Tiare Jennings '21-24
9th. 211 Jayda Coleman '21-24

10. 206 Christy Ring ’99-02

For Career Home Runs, once again 3 players jumped into the Top 10 in 2023. Tiare Jennings now has 73 HRs and sits in 3rd place all-time for the Sooners. Grace Lyons finished her career with 59 HRs and finishes in 6th Place. Kinzie Hansen now has 49 career HRs and sits in 10th Place on the all-time list.
HOME RUNS Career
1. 122 Jocelyn Alo ’18-22

5. 61 Jessica Shultz ‘10-13
6th - 59 Grace Lyons '19-23
7. 56 Amber Flores ‘07-10
8. 54 Sydney Romero ’16-19
9. 50 Keilani Ricketts ‘10-13
10. 49 Kinzie Hansen 20-24

Two other current players have a chance to enter the Top 10 in 2024. Jayda Coleman has 34 Career HR and Alyssa Brito has 31 Career HRs.

Something that I think is interesting concerns Grace Green. She hit 17 HRs in 2019 as a freshman in 197 plate appearences. She then hit 9 HRs in the next four years in 219 plate appearences to end with 26 Career HRs. Sooner fans can always wonder why Grace Green’s career took the turn that it took. But to her credit, she stayed the course and was a Sooner to the end providing leadership and inspiration to her team.

For Career Hit By Pitch, Grace Lyons moved up the career list with 4 more HBP in 2023. Her total is not 34.
HIT BY PITCH Career
1. 65 Caleigh Clifton ’16-19
2. 54 Amber Flores ‘07-10
3. 46 Savannah Long ‘05-08
4. 38 Dani Dobbs ‘08-11
5. 37 Norelle Dickson ‘04-07
T-6th 36 Fale Aviu ‘16-19
T-6th 36 Jana Johns - '21-22
8. 34 Grace Lyons ‘19-23
9. 27 Kelli Braitsch ‘00-03
10. 26 Traci Dickenson ‘06-09

Jayda Coleman has 21 career HBP. She has a chance to move up into the Top 10 in 2024.

In Career Doubles, Tiare Jennings moved up into the Top 10 in 2023 with 16 more doubles. Jennings now has 50 doubles in her career.
DOUBLES
1. 58 Sydney Romero ’16-19
2. 56 Lisa Carey ‘98-01
3. 53 Kristin Vesely ’03-06
4. 50 Jocelyn Alo '18-22
5th. 50 Tiare Jennings '21-24
T6th. 49 Ashli Barrett ’98-01
T6th. 49 Kelli Braitsch ’00-03
8. 48 Caleigh Clifton ’16-19
T9th. 47 Samantha Ricketts ’06-09
T9th. 47 Shelby Pendley ’13-15

Jayda Coleman has 35 career doubles. She has a chance to move into the Top 10 in 2024.

For Career Walks, Jayda Coleman moved up into the Top 10 in 2023 as her career total is now 125 walks.
WALKS DRAWN
1. 207 Lauren Chamberlain ‘12-15
2. 177 Jocelyn Alo ‘18-22
3. 170 Keilani Ricketts ‘10-13
4. 164 Caleigh Clifton ’16-19
5. 163 Amber Flores ‘07-10
6. 147 Brittany Williams ‘11-14
7. 126 Jessica Shults ‘10-13
8. 125 Jayda Coleman '21-24
9. 121 Shelby Pendley ‘13-15
T10. 118 Casey Dickson ’94-97
T10. 118 Christy Ring ’99-02

Tiare Jennings has 92 career walks and can move into the Top 10 in 2024.

For Career Extra Base Hits, two current players moved into the Top 10 list in 2023. Tiare Jennings moved into the 3rd position for EBH with her 33 EBH in 2023. Grace Lyons moved into the 6th position with her 17 EBH in 2023.
EXTRA-BASE HITS
1. 173 Jocelyn Alo ’18-22
2. 145 Lauren Chamberlain ‘12-15
3. 124 Tiare Jennings ‘21-24
4. 121 Sydney Romero ‘16-19
5. 115 Shelby Pendley ‘13-15
6. 105 Grace Lyons ‘19-23
7. 101 Jessica Shults ‘10-13
8. 99 Amber Flores ‘07-10
9. 98 Kelli Braitsch ’00-03
9. 98 Lisa Carey ‘98-01

Two current Sooners have the chance to move into the Top 10 in 2024. Kinzie Hansen has 78 EBH while Jayda Coleman has 73 EBH. Hansen has had two seasons (2021 and 2023) which would move her in to the Top 10 in 2024. Coleman would need another year like her 2023 season to do so.

For Career Total Bases, the same two Sooners moved into the Top 10 in 2023. Tiare Jennings is now in the 4th spot with 511 total bases. Grace Lyons moved into the Top 10 into the 5th spot with 473 total bases in 2023.
TOTAL BASES Career
1. 761 Jocelyn Alo ’18-22
2. 583 Lauren Chamberlain ‘12-15
3. 558 Sydney Romero ‘16-19
4. 511 Tiare Jennings ‘21-24
5. 473 Grace Lyons ‘19-23
6. 466 Lisa Carey ‘98-01
7. 464 Jessica Shults ‘10-13
8. 458 Shelby Pendley ‘13-15
9. 455 Amber Flores ‘07-10
10. 448 Kelli Braitsch ’00-03

Both Kinzie Hansen and Jayda Coleman have a good chance to move into the Top 10 with good seasons in 2024. All three of Coleman’s past seasons will move her into the Top 10. Two of her three seasons (excluding 2020) for Hansen would move her in to the Top 10 in 2024.

For Career Batting Average, an amazing number of current Sooners are in the Top 10. There are five. They are highlighted in the list below.
BATTING AVERAGE (MIN. 200 AB)
1. .445 Jocelyn Alo ’18-22
2. .427 Tiare Jennings ’21-24
3. .425 Jayda Coleman ’21-24
4. .405 Rylie Boone ‘20-2
4
5. .402 Norrelle Dickson ’04-07
6. .401 Shelby Pendley ‘13-15
7. .395 Lauren Chamberlain ‘12-15
8. .392 Alyssa Brito ’22-24
9. .387 Kinzie Hansen ’20-24

10. .375 Sydney Romero ’16-19

For Career On Base%, two Sooners, Jayda Coleman and Tiare Jennings, are currently in the Top 10 for Oklahoma.
ON BASE PERCENTAGE (MIN. 200 AB)
1. .557 Jocelyn Alo ‘18-22
2. .553 Jayda Coleman ’21-24
3. .556 Lauren Chamberlain ‘12-15

5. .517 Shelby Pendley ‘13-15
6. .513 Caleigh Clifton ’16-19
7. .501 Tiare Jennings ‘21-24
8. .503 Keilani Ricketts ‘10-13
9. .486 Paige Parker ‘15-18
10. .484 Norrelle Dickson ’04-07

Two Sooners can possibly move up into the Top 10 with strong seasons in 2024, Rylie Boone and Alyssa Brito.

For Career Slugging %, there are once again 5 current Sooners in the Top 10. The five players are highlighted below.
SLUGGING PERCENTAGE (MIN. 200 AB)
1. .987 Jocelyn Alo ’18-22
2. .960 Lauren Chamberlain ‘12-15
3. .909 Tiare Jennings ’21-24
4. .874 Shelby Pendley ‘13-15
5. .788 Alyssa Brito ‘22-24
6. .734 Kinzie Hansen ’20-24
7. .719 Jayda Coleman ’21-24

8. .703 Amber Flores ‘07-10
9. .684 Grace Lyons ’19-23
10. .674 Keilani Ricketts ‘10-13

To me it is amazing to be able to see the amount of offensive talent that has been on the field from 2021 to 2023 and will still be out there in 2024 in the new Love’s Field. We are truly blessed to be fans during this time.

Boomer Sooner!

I will post the pitching updates and some final transfer totals for Haley Lee and Alex Storako on a second and third post in this thread below.

[EDIT]
For some reason I simply skipped over the Career RBI list for the Sooners in my original post above. I have added it here. Sorry for doing so.

In 2023, two Sooners moved into the Top 10 list. Tiare Jennings moved all the way to #3 on the list with her 6 RBIs in 2023. Grace Lyons moved into 8th place with her 34 RBIs in 2023.

RUNS BATTED IN Career
1. 323 Jocelyn Alo ‘18-
2. 254 Lauren Chamberlain ‘12-15
3rd. 245 Tiare Jennings '21-23
4. 239 Samantha Ricketts ‘06-09
5. 230 Jessica Shults ‘10-13
6. 215 Sydney Romero ’16-19
7. 214 Shelby Pendley ‘13-15
8. 206 Grace Lyons '19-23
9. 197 Shay Knighten ’16-19
10. 190 Ashli Barrett ’98-01

Kinzie Hansen has 178 RBIs after she added 57 in 2023. Hansen could move into the Top 5 with a strong 2024 season.

Tiare Jennings will at least finish 2nd on the all-time list if she adds 10 RBIs in 2024. If she adds 79 RBIs she will overtake Jocelyn Alo and become the all-time RBI leader for OU. Jennings had averaged 81 RBIs in her three seasons at OU.

Here is the updated list for Oklahoma Career Pitching results after the 2023 season.

For Earned Run Average, one Sooner entered the Top 10 in 2023. That pitcher was Jordy Bahl as she crossed the 150 IP threshold for being on the list.
EARNED RUN AVERAGE (MIN. 150 IP)
1. 0.56 Kerri Mulry ‘86
2. 0.99 Jordy Bahl ‘22-23
3. 1.00 Cheryl Jacobs ‘78-80
4. 1.13 Kami Keiter ‘02-05
5. 1.15 Patti Graham ’81-84
6. 1.24 Mary Thompson ‘10-13
7. 1.26 Cheryl Jacobs ’78-80
8. 1.31 Jill Most ‘06-09
9. 1.38 D.J. Mathis ‘97-00
10. 1.41 Paige Parker ‘15-18

Bahl added her second season to her career numbers and becomes only the second Sooner pitcher with an ERA under 1.00. If anyone knows about Kerri Mulry from 1986, please share about her. Nicole May is just outside the Top 10 with her career 1.47 ERA after three seasons. With a good 2024, she can break into the Top 10.

One other note here. I believe that Keilani Ricketts has a career ERA of 1.23 but she is not on this list. I believe that is an error in the Game Notes.

For Opponents Batting Average, Jordy Bahl also added her name to this career Top 10 in 2023.
OPPONENT BATTING AVERAGE (MIN. 150 IP)
1. .147 Kerri Mulry ’86
2. .152 Jordy Bahl ‘22-23 **
3. .161 Giselle Juarez ‘19-21
4. .162 Keilani Ricketts ‘10-13
5. .168 Cheryl Jacobs ‘79-80
6. .169 Jill Most ‘94-97
7. .172 Shannon Saile ‘19-21
8. .173 Patti Krafft ’82-85
9. .175 Brea Moore ‘94-95
10. .176 Paige Parker ‘15-18

Again, Nicole May has placed herself in position to enter the Top 10 in 2024 with another good season. She currently has a 0.180 BAA. If May repeats either of her last two years, she could enter the Top 10.

** A note about this statistic. I have used a standard average calculation to figure the career BAA. It is the best I can do.

For Saves, Jordy Bahl added one Save to her totals in 2023 and moves up one spot in 2023. Nicole May enters the Top 10 with her 1 additional save in 2023.
SAVES
1. 18 Paige Lowary ’17-18
2. 11 Shannon Saile ‘19-21
3. 9 Kami Keiter ‘02-05
4. 8 Keilani Ricketts ‘10-13
5. 6 Lana Moran ‘97-00
5. 6 Paige Parker ‘15-18
7. 5 Jill Most ‘94-97
7. 5 Jennifer Stewart ’99-02
7. 5 Jordy Bahl ‘22-23
9. 4 Dayna Garcia ‘92-93
9. 4 DJ Mathis ‘06-09
9. 4 Shelby Pendley ‘13-15
9. 4 Nicole May ‘21-24

For Winning Percentage with 50 decisions, Nicole May jumped into the 2nd place with her 2023 season with her 48-3 career record.
WINNING PERCENTAGE (MIN. 50 DECISIONS)
1. .962 Mariah Lopez (51-2) ‘17-19
2. .941 Nicole May (48-3) ‘21-24
3. .898 Giselle Juarez (53-6) ‘19-21
4. .879 Michelle Gascoigne (51-7) ‘10-13
5. .872 Paige Parker (123-18) ‘15-18
6. .847 Lauren Eckermann (50-9) ‘07-08
7. .821 Jennifer Stewart (115-25) ‘99-02
8. .800 Kelsey Stevens (56-14) ‘14-16
9. .792 Keilani Ricketts (133-35) ‘10-13
10. .768 D.J. Mathis (76-23) ‘06-09

Jordy Bahl holds a .956 winning percentage but is 4 decisions short of qualifying for the category with her 44-2 record. I wonder how many Sooner fans realize the #1 pitcher in this category is Mariah Lopez.

For Strikeouts Per 7 IP, both Jordy Bahl and Nicole May entered the Top 10 in 2023. Bahl is in the 3rd spot with her 9.63 Ks/7 IP mark. May sets in 8th with her 7.98 Ks/7 IP.
STRIKEOUT PER 7 IP (MIN. 150 IP)
1. 10.46 Keilani Ricketts ‘10-13
2. 9.75 Shannon Saile ‘19-21
3. 9.63 Jordy Bahl ‘22-23
4. 9.52 Giselle Juarez ’19-21
5. 9.46 Michelle Gascoigne ‘10-13
6. 8.42 Mariah Lopez ’17-19
7. 8.39 Jill Most ‘94-97
8. 7.98 Nicole May ‘21-24
9. 7.81 Paige Parker ‘15-18
10. 7.44 Kelsey Stevens ‘14-16

The last category is for defense. It is the Fielding % with a minimum of 300 chances. It is a statistic dominated by catchers because of getting a put out for every strikeout that they catch. After another top notch season in 2023, Kinzie Hansen remains in the Top 10 for Oklahoma.
FIELDING PERCENTAGE (MIN. 300 CHANCES)
1. .995 Jessica Shults (2022 PO, 99 A, 11 E) ‘10-13
2. .993 Lynnsie Elam (1124, 69, 8) ’18-22
2. .993 Kinzie Hansen (952, 47, 7) ’20-24
2. .993 Whitney (Ellis) Montgomery (845, 98, 7) ‘13-16
5. .992 Lea Wodach (1155, 72, 10) ’15-18
6. .991 Kim Young (606, 73, 6) ‘96-97
6. .991 Christina Enea (1530, 99, 15) ‘02-05
6. .991 Lynette Velazquez (881, 64, 9) ‘98-99
9. .990 Ashli Barrett (1055, 166, 12) ‘98-01
10. .989 Samantha Ricketts (1216, 86, 15) ‘06-09

We have had quite a run of very high-quality defensive catches since 2010. Shults to (Ellis) Montgomery to Wodach to Elam to Hansen. The list here goes back to the 1996 season straight up through 2024.

Boomer Sooner!

The next post for this topic, I will present the career statistics for Haley Lee and Alex Storako.

Here are where Haley Lee’s and Alex Storako’s career stats would have placed on the career OU leaders Top 10 lists.

Haley Lee:
• Lee’s 61 career HRs would have placed her in a tie for 5th place with Jessica Shultz.
• Lee’s 145 career walks would have placed her in 7th.
• Lee’s Slugging% of .704 would have placed her in 8th.
• Lee’s OB% of .484 would have placed her in a tie for 10th place.
• Lee’s 46 doubles would have placed her in a tie for 11th place.

Alex Storako:
• Storako’s Career Batting Average Against of .163 would have placed her 5th.
• Storako’s 5 saves would have placed her in a tie for 7th place.
• Storako’s W-L % of .813% with an 87W and 20L would have placed her in 8th.

Wow!
Hats off to you '56!
Nicely Done.
You've put Henry to shame! Ha!
Thank you so much for all the trouble you've taken to put all this together. It is very nice--and comforting!--to see where our current Sooners stack up on these all time lists, and almost all of them have another year to go!
Nice job!

I guess I did not post that for some reason. It was on my spreadsheet I am sure. I must have skipped over it when I built the word document to post. I will check in the morning.

Sorry!

Sorry!
Here is the Career RBI list with notes. I will add this info into the Career Stats Offensive post above.

In 2023, two Sooners moved into the Top 10 list. Tiare Jennings moved all the way to #3 on the list with her 6 RBIs in 2023. Grace Lyons moved into 8th place with her 34 RBIs in 2023.

RUNS BATTED IN Career
1. 323 Jocelyn Alo ‘18-
2. 254 Lauren Chamberlain ‘12-15
3rd. 245 Tiare Jennings '21-23
4. 239 Samantha Ricketts ‘06-09
5. 230 Jessica Shults ‘10-13
6. 215 Sydney Romero ’16-19
7. 214 Shelby Pendley ‘13-15
8. 206 Grace Lyons '19-23
9. 197 Shay Knighten ’16-19
10. 190 Ashli Barrett ’98-01

Kinzie Hansen has 178 RBIs after she added 57 in 2023. Hansen could move into the Top 5 with a strong 2024 season.
Tiare Jennings will at least finish 2nd on the all-time list if she adds 10 RBIs in 2024. If she adds 79 RBIs she will overtake Jocelyn Alo and become the all-time RBI leader for OU. Jennings had averaged 81 RBIs in her three seasons at OU.

South Carolina does something pretty nice. They actually include the stats from Oklahoma in addition to the stats for Johns' career at South Carolina. Kudos to South Carolina!

Johns finished with 96 career HBP in her five years. Her 96 HBP would have far outdistanced Caleigh Clifton (65) for 1st Place on the career HBP by 31 HBP bruises.
Johns finished with 50 career HRs in her five years. That would have tied Johns with Keilani Ricketts for 9th on the Oklahoma Top 10 Career HR list.

This is such an outstanding post, 56, and your conclusion that it shows how remarkable the players are from the 21, 22, 23 teams is spot on. Till I saw these stats I hadn't realized to what degree that is true. We've sometimes talked about which softball team was the best of all time. Clearly, it would be one of those three, team 24 is yet to be, but in fact, as these stats show, it's hard to separate the three teams. The players were pretty much the same people on the three. Players who are best of all time or in the conversation for best. Alo was on two of the three. Bahl was on two of the three. Britto, Johns, and Snow were on two of the three. Jennings, Coleman, May, Hansen, Boone, and Lyons were on all three. I've left unmentioned so many other top players, but we all know who they are. Point is just a reiteration of 56's conclusion about them. Clearly, there is no other team or sequence of teams in the history of the NCAA that are comparable. If the stats prove it and our eyeballs prove it, that is not hyperbole.
