A funny thing happened on the way to the forum......no, that's a musical.....happened on the way to the ball park......no...start over.
A funny thing happened on the way to the END of the ball game....
Over the course of 5 1/2 innings, the Spark put up 8 runs and going into the bottom of the 6th and an 8-0 lead over the Vipers.
A Sidebar here: the top of the 6th inning play was halted and "inning over by rule" when we got ahead by 8 runs. (We only had two outs and bases were loaded when they stopped play.)
Then the meltdown began.....
The Vipers scored 4 in the bottom of the 6th, 4 more in the bottom of the 7th to tie the game. The Spark then scored a run in the top of the 8th to go ahead 9-8, but the Vipers scored 3 in the bottom of the inning to walk it off.
Ricketts Started and pitched the first 3 innings and was relieved by Rochard who came in for the next 2 innings. Emily Watson then came in in the 6th and gave up 2 runs but also left 2 runners on base. Ricketts came back to finish the inning, and pitched the 7th. Donnie Gobourne pitched the 8th. Ricketts was charged with the loss.
Here's the line:
-------------R----H----E----L
Spark------9----11---2----9
Vipers-----11---10---0----6

WP Hyland
LP Ricketts

We are leaving too many on base each game----like another team we know does
And it seems that Watson may be the weaker link in our pitching staff....not totally sure about that, but I think she's been involved in some of our losses.

Rubber game tonight at 7pm CDT.
