Oklahoma Men's B-Ball In Austin for a Red River Rivalry Game SAT

Post by OUBeliever56A »

The Oklahoma Sooner Men's Basketball Team is in Austin today for a 1 PM tip-off against #5/#6 Texas. Tip-off is at 1 PM today.

Saturday's game against the Longhorns will be broadcast on ESPN+ with Rich Hollenberg and Chris Spatola on the call. Fans may also listen on the Sooner Sports Radio Network (KRXO 107.7 FM The Franchise in Oklahoma City; KTBZ 1430 AM in Tulsa; Varsity Radio App) with Toby Rowland and Kevin Henry announcing.

Here is the staff writers preview article about the matchup.

The Longhorns are in a three-way tie for 1st Place in the big 12 with a 9-4 record with Baylor and Kansas. OU is in a tie for 9th Place with Texas Tech in the conference with a 3-10 record. Both teams need a win today. Texas needs it to keep pace with one of Baylor/Kansas. Baylor and Kansas play each other today at 3 PM (ESPN). OU needs the win to potentially move ahead of Texas Tech who plays at West Virginia today at 11 AM.

Texas has a very active set of 'bigs' along with good strong guard play. OU will be pressed today to play well enough inside today to keep pace with Texas. The OU guards will have to play smartly and shoot well to keep the Sooner in the game. In their earlier game this season at LNC, Texas defeated OU by one point at 70-69. In that game, OU ws able to control the pace of the game that gave them a chance to pick up a win. OU's Jacob Groves made a 3-point bucket as the final buzzer sounded to make the game a 1-point game. Groves' THREE came right after two free throws by Texas's Carr to make it a four-point game.

Sherfield, J Groves and Hill all scored 14 or more points in the first game to lead Oklahoma. With Oweh added to the lineup for OU, it will be interesting to see if OU has improved athletic play against Texas, especially inside and in transition.

Good luck to the Sooners today in Austin.

Sooners take the lead 46-44 with 15:01 left. GS just hit two quick threes with a great streak by Godwin sandwiched in between.

OU has 16 fast break points to TX 2. This shocks me.

TX leads 70-67 after a 9-0 run. Will OU continue to be awful in the face of adversity?

TX wins 85-83.

Will it be enough to keep Oweh and Uzan from the portal?

The Oklahoma Men's Basketball Team traveled to Austin and did just about everything but win on Saturday against Texas. Texas won 85-83 in overtime. The Sooners needed a big THREE from Sherfield to tie the score and force overtime in the final seconds of the second half. the score at halftime was also tied. OU just kept hanging in there to force Texas to do more. in overtime, the game more-or-less boiled down to a couple of slips and falls by OU players that led to baskets by Texas and a lead. In the final second, literally, a good pass from Hill to Godwin almost resulted in a bucket from 3 feet but in the rush of getting the shot off, Godwin's attempt was off providing the 2-point margin of victory.

Here is the staff writers article about the Red River Rivalry game.

I am sure some Sooner fans will find a way to say the Sooners choked or played poorly when it mattered. But I disagree. I saw most of the second half and overtime. I thought the Sooners played well throughout and it was just breaks that were the difference. And Sir 'Jabari Rice was a huge factor also for Texas. Rice's 24 points with many coming in the portion of the game that I saw, was huge. He just was good when Texas needed it.

OU's effort is still there in a very tough conference to play in with each game requiring your very best to pick up a win. Really it requires a team's best to just be in the game at the end in the Big 12. The bar is very high to pick up wins in the Big 12. Unfortunately, the loss drops the Sooners into last place in the Big 12 with a 3-11 record and 13-14 overall. The Texas win kept them tied with Kansas, who defeated Baylor in Lawrence, KS yesterday 87-71. In that game, Kansas reversed a 45-26 first half in favor of Baylor to come back with 55 points in the snd half to Baylor's 32 to produce the 16 point margin. I bet the "Fogg" was rocking Kansas in the second half.

In other action in the Big 12, Texas Tech defeated West Virginia in Morgantown 78-71 in a bit of an upset. TCU (with Miler playing) ran away with the win over Oklahoma State 100-75 in Ft. Worth. Kansas State won over Iowa State 61 - 55 in a very physical and intense game.

Here are the up-to-date standings in the Big 12:

Tie 1st - Kansas and Texas - 10-4
3rd - Baylor - 9-5
Tie 4th - Kansas State and Iowa State - 8-6
Tie 6th - Oklahoma State and TCU - 7-7
Tie 8th - Texas Tech and West Virginia - 4-10
10th - Oklahoma 3-11.
The mid-week schedule for the conference is this:

Monday:

Oklahoma State at West Virginia - 6 PM - ESPN2
Kansas at TCU - 8 PM - ESPN
Tuesday:

Baylor at Kansas State - 6 PM - ESPN2
Iowa State at Texas - 8 PM - LHN
Texas Tech at Oklahoma - 8 PM - ESPN/2
It looks like every mid-week game is a big game. There are ramifications for ever team in every game.

It sounds like a 'nonsensical" thought, but Oklahoma need a win at home against Tech on Tuesday. With a win, they would time and hold the tie-breaker over Tech which could improve their seed in the Big 12 Tourney.
