Oklahoma Men's B-Ball host Kansas State tonight in LNC at 8 PM

Post by OUBeliever56A »

The Oklahoma Men's Basketball Team hosts Kansas State tonight in Lloyd Noble Center in a Big 12 matchup at 8 PM.

Tuesday's game against the Wildcats will be broadcast on ESPNU with James Westling and Lance Blanks on the call. Fans may also listen on the Sooner Sports Radio Network (KRXO 107.7 FM The Franchise in Oklahoma City; KTBZ 1430 AM in Tulsa; Varsity Radio App) with Toby Rowland and Kevin Henry announcing.

Here is the preview of the game written by staff writers for OU.

Tonight's game between OU and K-State will be the first time the two teams have meet this season in a rare double-dip set of games in the second half of the Big 12 schedule.

Both teams come into the game having the least amount of success at this point in the season. After starting the season with a 9-3 out-of-conf schedule, the Sooners were 2-3 in their first five Big 12 games with each game being a game determined by 5 points or less. But the Sooners are 1-7 in their last eight games with their only win being against Alabama, a top ranked team at that time in what is definitely their best outing of the season. Kansas State opened the season with an 11-1 record through their out-of-conf schedule. K-State opened the Big 12 schedule with 4 straight wins but have fallen to a 4-5 record over their last 9 games.

Kansas State usually has 3 guards and 2 forwards on the floor. Their two leading scorers are Johnson, a 6'6" forward and Nowell, a 5'8" guard who average 17.6 and 16.9 PPG. Oklahoma needs to find a way to slow these two players down. Hill and Uzan or Cortes will be key player tonight on defense for that reason tonight. Johnson and Nowell take 42% of the Wildcats shots. I really do not see any matchup problems with K-State for the Sooners. K-State does want to run if they can as they score nearly 10 more points a game. The Wildcats also get to the free throw line as they shoot 22 free throws a game compared to 15 for the Sooners. The two teams shoot roughly the same percentage from all 3 areas of the floor. K-State also goes to the offensive boards well as 30% of their rebounds come on the offensive end of the floor. By contrast, OU gets about 22% of their rebounds on the offensive end.

Defense against Johnson and Nowell, defensive rebounds to counter K-State's offensive rebounds and control of the ball after a miss by Oklahoma seem to be the keys as well as not picking up easy fouls on defense. If OU can shoot the ball better than average tonight it would help also.

Oklahoma needs a win tonight to keep pace with Texas Tech who defeated Teas last night. Texas Tech and OU are potentially tied, with an OU win tonight. OU defeated Tech in Lubbock earlier in the season. With a win at home in 3 games against Tech, Oklahoma can stay out of the 10th spot in the Big 12 standings.

Good luck tonight in the game against K-State.

Sooners tied up with K State at the half, 36 all.
Sooners are 6 of 16 from 3 and shooting 45.2% from the field.

K State is 2-12 from 3 and shooting 48.5% from the field.

The Sooners don't have any starters in foul trouble yet.

OU's fortunes invariably ebb and flow with their success at hitting their 3 point attempts.

When the ball is going in, Sooners usually win, as we saw when they beat Alabama. 9-13 from BTA and 84% FT shooting usually is game-winning basketball, even against big, bad Bama.

Tonight the Sooners hit 47.8% BTA and if they could have hit a decent percentage from the charity stripe they would've won going away! They are usually better than 64% from the free throw line...

The Oklahoma Sooner Men's Basketball Team got up off the deck and simply went to work last night and defeated the Kansas State Wildcats convincingly 79-65. After a 36-36 halftime tie, the Sooners outscored the Wildcats by 14 in the second half to secure the victory. (Maybe it is those gray unis.)

Here is the staff writers article about the win.

https://soonersports.com/news/2023/2/14 ... 14-k-state

The starting five played pretty well last night. Sherfield scored 22, T Groves scored 16, Uzan scored 13, Hill scored 12 and Oweh scored 6. All of them played 26 or more minutes last night. Cortes had a bit of an offensive breakout of the bench as he scored 8 points with Bamisile adding the final 2. The Sooners limited their turnovers to a very low 11 for the game. The Sooners also outrebounded K-State by 1 board.

Oklahoma shot very well as they shot 51% from the field and 48% from the 3-point area. They could have shot a bit better from the charity stripe though as they made 18 of 28.

The additional playing time by Oweh the last few games has seemed to add a level of athleticism that helps the Sooners. His defensive ability and quickness has added something to the team.

Last night's win keeps the Sooners tied with Texas Tech at 3-10 in the conference and tied for 9th place. That is important as the Sooners need to stay out of 10th place due to the Big 12 tournament matchup in the first round. Both teams are 1 game behind West Virginia who is 3-9.

On Saturday the Sooners travel down to Austin to play the Longhorns at 1 PM. The game will be on ESPN+.

Good luck to the Sooners.

Great effort by the guys and a big win. Good for them!!

Not understanding, though, wearing all black uniforms at home. Can we just stick to school colors? All black is ok if you are UCF, Missou, or a school where black is one of your school colors. Our home whites look so sharp, why do something else?

Stand corrected - the unis were all gray. That really doesn't change my question. Gray isn't one of our school colors either.
