The Oklahoma Sooner Cross Country Teams open their Fall Schedule in 2 weeks on September 1st as they participate in the Missouri XC Opener in Columbia, MO.
The two teams will be trying to improve over their 2021 seasons. In 2021, the Women's Team finished 9th out of 10 teams. The Men's Team finished 8th out of 9 teams.
For the Women's Team, the Sooners will have no freshman on the team in 2022, but they will have 3 runners that have not competed for the Sooners. In terms of experience, Jordyn Kaplan will be competing in her 5th season as a Grad Student. Two other runners will be competing in their 4th season. Madeline Medina and Elise Welch will be competing as Seniors.
As to the best personal times in 6K events, here is how the Women XC runners stack up:
1. Jordyn Kaplan - 22:18 in 2021.
2. Madeline Medina - 22:40 in 2021
3. Elise Welch - 22:47 in 2019
4. Carson Hockersmith (SR) - 22:53 in 2021
5. Grace Williamson (SO) - 23:14 in 2021
6. Gabi Barrera (SO) - 23:19 in 2021
7. Madison Acosta (R-JR) - 23:44 in 2019
8. Allie Lyda (SO) - 27:32 in 2021
9. Levi Gladd (R-JR), Hannah Turner (R-JR), Erin Weigel (JR) - No personal best times.
As a team, the Women's team will probably need to improve their times to the 21:30 range to compete for higher finishes. To improve a minute or more is not an easy task for a runner. If 5 runners can finish under 22:00 minutes, the team should improve overall however.
For the Men's Team, they are very young with 5 Freshman on the 2022 squad with 4 other upperclassman. Two Sooner runners have competed for 3 seasons. Jordan Gledhill (SR) and Lucas Babcock (R-JR). Fernando Morales (JR) has competed for 2 season.
As to the best personal times in 8K events, here is how the Men XC runners stack up:
1. Jordan Gledhill - 25:20 in 2021
2. Antonio Florcruz (SO) - 25:39 in 2021
3. Fernando Morales - 25:45 in 2021
4. Lucas Badcock - 27:17 in 2021
5. Isaac Barrera (FR), Colin Caso (FR), Peter Makuei (FR), Josh McGovern (FR), Anass Mghari (FR)
As a team, the Men's team will probably need to improve their times to the 24:15 range to compete for higher finishes. To improve a minute or more is not an easy task for a runner. With five freshman runners, all eyes will be on them in 2022. the success of the team will be on their shoulders. If 5 runners can finish under 25:00 minutes, the team should improve overall however.
Both teams have four meets scheduled before the Big 12 Championships on October 28th. The schedule has them competing every two weeks as a basis for the teams. Here is the Cross Country Schedule:

Good luck to the Cross Country runners in 2022!

Results are in from Columbia, MO. Sooners finish 2nd in both Men and Women events.
The results seem to be encouraging for both teams despite only having 5 teams participate today.

First meet has been finished!
A pretty solid showing for both squads!
Let's start with the men's team who ran the 6k today:
The men had a solid showing finishing 2nd with 56 points. Iowa State finishing 1st with 19. A really good barometer for Head Coach Tim Langford and Assistant Coach Hannah Fields
Sophomore Colin Caso was OU's highest overall finisher for both teams with a 2nd place finish. Had a time of 18:05.2. This time translates to a 24:38 8k time. That time would be good enough for 14th in the Big 12 XC Championships last year. Good solid time to open the year with, and something I'm sure our coaches are very pleased with!
OU had another top 10 finisher from Sophomore Antonio Florcruz with a time of 18.16.3. This time translates to a 23:53 8k. That time would be good enough for a contention for 19th place in the Big 12 XC Championships last year. Another good showing by another young runner for Oklahoma
How the rest of the team finished-
Junior Fernando Morales finished 18th with an 18:47.1
Freshman Peter Maduei finished 25th with a 19:07.4
Freshman Logan Segar finished 27th with a 19:10.4
Junior Jordan Gledhill finished 32nd with a 19:14.4
Senior Thomas Kenpshield finished 39th with a 19:30.8
Junior Lucas Badcock finished 43rd with a 19:38.3
Again, pretty solid start for the men's team to work with. Now is the time in this sport to build, and do so quickly.
Next meet is on September 17th in Lubbock, TX. The real test for this team starts there!

Now for the Ladies who ran the 5k:
Freshman Erin O'Brien lead the way for the ladies finishing 4th overall with a 17:55 5k. Translates to a 21:41 6k. Which would've put her 16th in last years Big 12 XC Championship. Hardly do you see a Freshman leading a D1 team, but from the look of the time and how she progressed her race... she's going to be a very good runner for Coach Tim Langford and Coach Hannah Fields! Great start for the Freshman opening the year! Lot's of promise!
Senior Jordyn Kaplan was the next finisher for Oklahoma, coming in 8th with an 18:09.8 time. Translates to a 21:59 6k, that time would be good enough for 23rd in last years Big 12 XC Championship.
Sophoore Sierra Williams immediately after Jordyn for 9th on an 18:12.7 finish. Translates to a 22:01 6k, that time would be good enough for 23rd in last years Big 12 XC Championship. (25th if you include both runners into the rankings)
The rest of the team:
Senior Madeline Medina finished 15th with an 18:28.9
Sophomore Gabi Barrera finished 17th with an 18:33.2
Freshman Nicole Clifford finished 24th with an 18:44.8
Junior Elise Welch finished 35th with a 19:11.6
Freshman Tarryn Lowry finished 44th with a 19:37.5
Again, not a bad showing from the ladies at all. A strong starting point. As I stated on with the men's team... it's time to grow and quick. Sept. 17 will be here quick for them with a very solid challenge in Lubbock, TX!
Overall, I'm pretty happy with the start for both teams. Excited to see the results that come in from Lubbock, TX on the 17th!!
