OU Women's Tennis Wins at over A&M - In Final Four - 1st Time
The OU Women's Tennis Team playing in the Final 8 on Friday won over the Texas A&M Aggies 4-3 to reach the Final 4 for the first time in their history. The matches are being played in Champaign, Ill.
The win involved some Sooner Magic however. After taking the opening doubles point with the #1 Doubles team (Corley sisters) and the #3 Doubles team (Guzman/Staker) winning over their A&M opponents the singles matches were a bit tougher.
The Sooners were on the wrong side of the first two singles matches and trailed at 2-1 quickly. After a win by the #1 Singles player for OU, Layne Sleeth, to even the match at 2-2, OU dropped the #5 singles match and fell behind at 3-2 with two matches to play.
After dropping the first set, #2 Singles player Carmen Corley played her way to a two set comeback to win her match in 3 sets to even the match with A&M.
In the #6 Singles match which decided the outcome of the match, Emma Staker for OU also trailed after losing the first set. She rallied to win the second set and ultimately the third set to propel the Sooners into the Final Four in the last march to be settled on Friday.
Here is the staff writers article about the historical win for the Women's Tennis Team.

Once again the Oklahoma Women's Tennis Team goes down to the wire to win a match. For the second match in a row, Emily Straker, the # 6 singles player for the Sooners won the match-deciding point with a 6-0 third set win. That gave the Sooners the 4-3 win over Duke and advances them to the Finals against, wait for it, the Texas Longhorns. Texas won over North Carolina 4-2.
The Sooners won two of the doubles matches for the doubles point and 3 of the 6 singles matches for the needed 4 points and the win.
The match against Texas is Sunday at 7 PM.
Congrats to the women and good luck tomorrow.

It is pretty sad that the I have to report that the Sooner Women's Tennis was defeated by Texas for the National Championship last night 4-1 with two singles matches still in progress. to start the match, the Sooners lost the double point which is a rare thing. The Sooners usually dominate the double play. After dropping that point, it was an uphill battle.
But I will say proudly, being the runner-up and finishing 2nd should something that all Sooner fans and the team should be very proud of.

Again, great job by the team and I am proud of the effort and results all season long.

I agree 56, this team did us all proud, making it all the way to the finals. They accomplished a great deal and hopefully have moved this program to the next level in both play and recruiting for the future.OUBeliever56A wrote: ↑Mon May 23, 2022 7:08 am It is pretty sad that the I have to report that the Sooner Women's Tennis was defeated by Texas* for the National Championship last night 4-1 with two singles matches still in progress. to start the match, the Sooners lost the double point which is a rare thing. The NCAA Women's Tennis National Championships continue this week with the singles and the doubles play. OU has three players participating in the singles/doubles.
They all played yesterday with the Corley sisters winning in doubles and advancing to the round of 16. But both single players, Layne Sleeth and Carmen Corley dropping matches.
