Softball America - Top 10 Pitchers and Players for April

Post by OUBeliever56A »

Here are the two lists of players/pitchers chosen by Softball America.

Pitchers for April:

#1 - Chenise Delce - Arkansas
Notes: 2022 stats (as of 4/24/22): 13-2, 2.16 ERA, 127 SO, 100.2 IP

Arkansas looks to be in the driver's seat to win the program’s second consecutive SEC regular-season title, and Delce is a large part of that. The Tulsa transfer made quick work of opposing offenses this month. Delce picked up a pair of ranked wins against Florida, Kentucky and Auburn, and her victories against the Gators and Tigers were on the road. Delce's pair of wins against Florida propelled Arkansas to its first series sweep of the Gators in Gainesville and led her to be named the SEC Pitcher of the Week. The redshirt junior only gave up five earned runs in the month.

#2 - Keely Rochard - Virginia Tech
Notes: 2022 stats (as of 4/24/22): 20-2, 1.53 ERA, 252 SO, 155.2 IP

Virginia Tech made a statement to the rest of the country that they are a national championship contender after taking the series against Florida State in Tallahassee. Rochard recorded the wins in those games and struck out 22 Seminoles on the weekend. She also picked up a pair of wins against Virginia and Louisville this month. Rochard’s third ranked win in April came against UCF. Not only did she beat UCF, but she also no-hit the Knights. In her win against Liberty, Rochard fanned her 1,000th career batter. The fifth-year senior finished the month with four double-digit strikeout performances and one ACC Pitcher of the Week honor.

#3 - Danielle Williams - Northwestern
Notes: 2022 stats (as of 4/24/22): 22-2, 1.32 ERA, 248 SO, 165 IP

Williams caused the changing of the guards in the Big Ten and put Northwestern in a prime position to win the conference's regular-season championship. In April, Williams went 9-1 against conference foes with a pair of saves. The southpaw collected multiple wins against Ohio State, Indiana and Purdue. One of Williams’ wins and saves came against Michigan. The senior leads the Big Ten in ERA, wins, strikeouts and saves. She finished the month with a trio of double-digit strikeout performances.

#4 - Megan Faraimo - UCLA
Notes: 2022 stats (as of 4/24/22): 16-1, 1.47 ERA, 216 SO, 133.1 IP

Our top pitcher of the month from March had a perfect April. Faraimo went 3-0 with wins against Oregon State, Oregon and Stanford. The redshirt junior also recorded three saves on the month with one coming against the Ducks and the other two against the Beavers. Faraimo had two double-digit strikeout performances and allowed nine runs in April.

#5 - Kathryn Sandercock - Florida State
Notes: 2022 stats (as of 4/24/22): 23-1, 1.49 ERA, 127 SO, 150.1 IP

Despite experiencing her first loss of the season, the Seminoles' ace continued to prove why she's an All-American. Sandercock registered seven wins in April with three of them coming against ranked foes including Virginia Tech, Florida and Clemson. Sandercock only gave up nine walks during the month. The redshirt junior leads the ACC in wins and ERA for pitchers with more than 75 innings registered on the season.

#6 - Gabbie Plain - Washington
Notes: 2022 stats (as of 4/24/22): 14-4, 2.04 ERA, 143 SO, 120.1 IP

Plain picked up a pair of wins against Oregon State and all three of the Huskies' wins against Oregon. In her win against Oregon on April 24, Plain collected her 1,000th career strikeout.

#7 - Jordy Bahl - Oklahoma
Notes: 2022 stats (as of 4/24/22): 19-1, 0.98 ERA, 181 SO, 114.2 IP

April was a month of firsts for Bahl. During the month, the freshman picked up her fourth ranked win and first rivalry win over Texas. She also experienced the first loss of her college career, dropping game three of the series against the Longhorns. Bahl finished the month with six wins and four of them came against Big 12 opponents. The Nebraska native only gave up eight earned runs and nine walks in April. She leads the Big 12 in wins, while also ranking second in strikeouts and third in ERA.

#8 - Holly Azevedo - UCLA
Notes: 2022 stats (as of 4/24/22): 15-2, 1.30 ERA, 108 SO, 80.2 IP

Azevedo didn’t pick up a ton of innings in April, but she provided quality outings in the chances she had. She recorded a trio of ranked wins in April against Oregon and Oregon State. Her lone loss of the month was a 1-0 defeat against Stanford on the road.

#9 - Georgina Corrick - USF
Notes: 2022 stats (as of 4/24/22): 28-5, 0.48 ERA, 331 SO, 217 IP

Corrick picked up six wins and a save in April. Her no-hit win against East Carolina marked her 100th career victory, which set a new AAC record. The fifth-year senior took a pair of close losses against Florida and Wichita State, during which she only surrendered a combined two earned runs. Corrick allowed four earned runs in April and had four double-digit strikeout performances.

#10 - Alana Vawter - Stanford
Notes: 2022 stats (as of 4/24/22): 20-7, 1.62 ERA, 130 SO, 164.2 IP

Vawter played spoiler in the Pac-12 in April, earning her a spot on our list. Both UCLA and Arizona State went into their road series against Stanford with a perfect conference record and left with a pair of losses. Vawter is responsible for both of the Sun Devils' losses against the Cardinal and one of the Bruins' losses. The junior also picked up another pair of conference wins against Utah and one against Cal. She currently leads the Pac-12 in wins and ranks third in strikeouts.

(I am not real sure what Hope Trautwein needs to do besides maybe pitch more innings(69.0 IP in 2022). But her 0.10 ERA should count for an awful lot.)

Players for April:

#2 - Jayda Coleman - Oklahoma
Notes: 2022 stats (as of 4/24/22): .456 BA, 41 H, 3 2B, 1 3B, 6 HR, 29 RBI, 43 R

Coleman hit for the highest batting average (.593) out of anyone in our Top 10 Players of the Month of April ranking. Coleman had an 11-game hitting streak, five straight games with an RBI and three multi-hit games in the month. There’s a chance to see a home run from the Sooners before Alo steps to the plate as Coleman has the capability to hit the long ball and had three this past month. The sophomore also had 10 RBIs.

#3 - KB Sides - Arkansas
Notes: 2022 stats (as of 4/24/22): .394 BA, 52 H, 9 2B, 3 3B, 10 HR, 31 RBI, 50 R

The Razorbacks struck gold with Sides. The Alabama transfer has added the short game and speed Arkansas was missing at the top of its lineup in 2021. Sides stole eight bases in April and currently has 26 on the season. She also hit five home runs in April. The fifth-year finished the month with a .435 batting average, five multi-hit games, and 15 RBIs.

Notes: 2022 stats (as of 4/24/22): .423 BA, 47 H, 9 2B, 16 HR, 42 HR, 41 R

Notes: 2022 stats (as of 4/24/22): .444 BA, 56 H, 11 2B, 2 3B, 19 HR, 56 RBI, 37 R

Notes: 2022 stats (as of 4/24/22): .459 BA, 61 H, 11 2B, 15 HR, 51 RBI, 42 R

Gibson followed her impressive March with a big April. She hit four home runs, collected 16 RBIs and had five multi-hit games throughout the month. Gibson is now ranked in the top five in the SEC in batting average, home runs and RBIs, making her a viable candidate for the SEC Player of the Year honor.

#9 - Kayla Konwent - Wisconsin
Notes: 2022 stats (as of 4/24/22): .430 BA, 43 H, 9 2B, 8 HR, 25 RBI, 19 R

Konwent posted a .485 batting average in April and now ranks second in the Big Ten in that category. An eight-game hitting streak and five multi-hit games during the month helped her reach that impressive clip. After only hitting four home runs through the first two months of the season, Konwent matched that total in April. She also recorded seven RBIs, helping her obtain the second-highest OPS in the Big Ten at the current moment this season.

#10 - Delanie Wisz - UCLA
