No. 18 Sooners Fall to Gamecocks in Top 25 Matchup
The No. 18 Oklahoma men's tennis team (10-6, 3-4 SEC) dropped a top 25 matchup to the No. 25 South Carolina Gamecocks (12-4, 6-1 SEC) at the Carolina Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon. The final score was 4-1 and 6-1 with extended play.
On Court #4 in the Singles, the only successful Sooner was Luis Alvarez (OU) who defeated Atakan Karahan (SC) in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4.
In the Doubles Play, the Sooners split the first two matches that finished as the Sooners dropped the match on Court #3, 5-7 before winning the match on Court #2 by the inverse score of 7-5. The final match in Doubles determined the point as 3rd match ended in a set tiebreaker at 10-8 going to South Carolina along with the Double Point. Kholo Montsi/Luis Alvarez (OU) defeated Lucas da Silva/Max Stenzer (SC), 7-5.
In the Singles, after dropping the two matches on Court #1 and Court #6 in straight sets, the Sooners pickd up their only point on Alvarez's win on Court #4. The final three singles matches went three sets with South Carolina prevailing in each match.
