Oklahoma Men's Wrestling: 5 Sooners at the NCAA's this weekend !

Post by OUBeliever56A »

Five Oklahoma Sooner wrestlers will be at the NCAA's this weekend with matches starting on Friday in Kansas City. Head coach Roger Kish brings five qualified wrestlers and one alternate to NCAAs in his first season in Norman after presiding over Big 12 Conference affiliate member North Dakota State the last 12 seasons.

Here are the five Sooners with their first matches and seedings listed.

SEEDING AND FIRST-ROUND MATCHES
133: No. 29 Jace Koelzer vs. No. 4 Dylan Shawver (Rutgers)
149: No. 21 Willie McDougald vs. No. 12 Ethen Miller (Maryland)
157: No. 28 Jared Hill vs. No. 5 Ryder Downey (Northern Iowa)
197: No. 8 Stephen Buchanan vs. No. 25 Benjamin Smith (Cleveland State)
285: No. 11 Josh Heindselman vs. No. 22 Matthew Cover (Princeton)

Here is the Sooner staff writers article about the Sooners at the NCAA's.

In the first round, the Sooners need to get off to a good start. Two Sooners, Buchanan and Heindselman, should be favored in their first round matches. The other three Sooners need to pick up an upset if they can. McDougald looks to have a decent chance at an upset.

Good luck to all of the Sooners this weekend. Friday is a long day at the arena for the wrestlers.

...I'm giving new HC Kish an B+, maybe even an A- for his first season at the helm of SOONER grappling.
Could be the start of a shiny new era in OU wrestling.

Yes it,s not like he walked in room of all Americans. He must meet our high school coaches & programs.we have some
great Wrestler's right here n Okla. He also needs to establish a great summer camp for our HS wrestlers. It takes time. But those
two things would help big time for instate recruiting. Of coarse he will need to recruit out of state also. It, is a year around job.
But it can be done. 🤼‍♀️
