Sooner W BB Win going away 93-72 - Robertson hits 9 - 3's

Post by OUBeliever56A »

The Sooner Women's Basketball team started slowly on Sunday evening against Buffalo and trailed 15-17 after the 1st quarter. But the OU shooters heated up in the 2nd quarter and tallied 30 points to take the lead 45-33 at the half. The Sooners had 5 2-point buckets and 6 3-pointers with 2 free throws in the 2nd quarter.

The Sooners almost equaled that effort in the 3rd quarter as they tallied 5 and 5 on 2 and 3-pointers for 25 points and lead 70-54. As the Sooners emptied their bench in the 4th quarter they still outscored the Buffalo 23-18 to win by the final difference of 93-72.

Robertson, the quick-release long-range sharpshooter, was 9 for 23 from 3-point range. Her 9 three's tied her own Sooner record for the 4th time if I understood correctly listening to the broadcast. Robertson led the Sooner scoring with 27 points. Her two scoring teammates, Williams and Llanusa scored 19 and 16 respectively for a very strong scoring trio. Vann added 12 points in a supportive role as well.

Williams and Vann were the leaders on the boards with 12 and 8. Robertson followed with 7. Four players had 5 or more assists. Washington led with 7 while Robertson, Williams and Tot had 5 each. The Sooners had their fewest turnovers of the season with only 12 while picking up 8 steals during the game. OU and Buffalo both had 53 rebounds in the game with Buffalo having one more offensive board.

To open the game the Sooners did not record their first bucket from the field until the 6:59 mark of the quarter, on a 3-pointer from Llanusa, 3 minutes into the game. Buffalo scored the last 5 points of the quarter to lead 17-15. The Sooners actually stayed cold from the field and trailed 24-17 three minutes into the 2nd quarter. Two 3-pointers by Robertson and 2 free throws by Tot gave the Sooners the lead 25-24. Three 3-pointers and a bucket from the lane built the lead for OU to 36-26. Good shooting helped the Sooners build the lead to 45-33 aby the half.

The Sooner lead grew to 21 at the 6:04 mark of the 3rd quarter but Buffalo surged to narrow that lead to just 16 by the end of the 3rd quarter with a 70-54 score. The lead grew to 26 on a Williams bucket in the paint ay 89-63 at the 2:23 mark of the final quarter. Every player played for the Sooners as they won by the final score of 93-72.

Listening to the game on radio and then watching the highlights provided above, I had two different takes on the game. Listening I thought the Sooners played well but the play was a bit hectic and not smooth. From the highlights, the play looked much better. I guess that is why they are 'highlights'. I think this was a good win for the Sooners. They were able to bounce-back from the disappointing loss to Oregon on Saturday. They started a bit slow but when they found the range, they played really pretty well to win comfortably.

The Sooners play Minnesota at 4 PM CST today. The game can be listened to on radio. Minnesota is 4-2 on the season. They lost to Jacksonville and UConn. They have defeated Arizona State and Syracuse. The Gophers look to have a strong forward and two good guards. sounds a lot like the Sooners. It could be a good game for the Sooners playing on three straight days. The free-substituting plan for the Sooners by Coach Baranczyk probably will allow the Sooners from being leg weary during the condensed schedule of 3 games in 3 days.
