Thar bracket look very tough for the Sooners. With three top 10 teams, including the Top 2 teams, the Sooners better bring lots of energy and great shooting tot he gym.

I listened to the OU-Oregon Women's BB game on the radio broadcast yesterday afternoon. It sounded like the Sooners played very well if you look at the entire game with many positives being able to be identified. At a media timeout with 7:07 remaining the Sooners led 78-68 and had control of the game. For the first 33 minutes of the game, the Sooners had played very well and had did most everything they needed to do to upset the Oregon Ducks in the Bahamas. But those last 7 minutes were tough on the Sooners. Maybe it could be said the Ducks showed why they have been a top women's basketball program during those last 7 minutes also. The game ended with a 98-93 score with Oregon winning. While I do not think that anyone associated with the Sooners were pleased with outcome, the certainly can look at what might have been and be encouraged by how they played, especially for 33 minutes of the 40.
The Sooners started very well in the first quarter. They lead 9-8 at the first Media Time Out. Coming out of the break, the Sooners ran out to a 15-8 lead on Williams' 3-pointer. The Sooners
and Ducks played evenly to finish the quarter with OU leading 23-17. Robertson and Llanusa led OU with 6 points each in the 1st quarter. OU sank 4 3-pointers and 5 free throws in the quarter. The Sooners led despite being outrebounded 16-7.
Oregon made a comeback in the first 2 - 1/2 minutes of the 2nd quarter and led one at 24-23. By the media timeout at 4:52 remaining in the half the Sooners had regained the lead 31-27. Those 8 points were courtesy of a Robertson 3-pointer, a Scott old fashioned 3-point play and a Williams 2-point bucket. Coming out of the timeout the Ducks regained the lead at 32-31 when OU committed two straight turnovers on their possessions. But OU own the rest of the 2nd quarter and outscored Oregon 13-3 to lead at halftime 44-35. In that stretch, Robertson scored 5, Vann and Williams scored 3 and Tucker scored 2.
At the half the Sooners were shooting 37% from the 3-point area and overall from the field. They also added 76% from the free throw line. The Sooners had 7 buckets from downtown, 6 from inside the line and made 16 free throws. They worked hard in the first half to earn 24 rebounds to Oregon's 26. OU had 6 steals, 10 assists and 8 turnovers. Robertson had 14, Williams had 8, Scott had 7, Llanusa had 6 points. Vann with 5 and Williams with 4 led the rebounds. Robertson led with 4 assists. The Sooners had just played the best half of the young season.
The third quarter started slowly for the Sooners, When Llanusa made the first bucket of the quarter from the field the Sooners led 50-48 and shortly after at the medio timeout OU led 52-50. OU's scoring was mainly from the free throw line with 6 points from the stripe to open the 3rd. The Sooners once again reasserted themselves and outplayed the Ducks the last 5 minutes of the quarter by a score of 15-10. In that stretch Williams scored after an offensive rebound, Robertson made a 3-pointer, Llanusa got a bucket inside with a free throw for 3 then made her own 3-pointer followed by 2 free throws by Washington and a Williams 2-pointer. The sore at the end of 3 quarters was OU 67 to 60 for Oregon. OU led the Ducks in rebounding after 3 quarters 36-35. OU had 8 steals and 16 assists through the first 3 periods. Robertson led the scoring with 17, Llanusa had 13 and Williams had 12.
In the first 3 minutes of the 4th quarter, OU outscored Oregon 11-8 to open the final quarter to lead 78-68 behind three 3-pointers (Robertson 2, Llanusa) and a Llanusa bucket for 2. Coming out of the media timeout at that point, the Ducks were able to run off 10 straight points to tie the score at 78-all in a little over 2 minutes. In that stretch the Sooners had 3 turnovers, gave up a 2nd chance bucket on an offensive rebound and missed their only shot during the Oregon run.
The game went back-and-forth until it was 86-86 inside 2 minutes left. Williams had 7 points in that stretch with Tot adding one from the free throw line. At the 00:56 mark left in the game and the score 88-86 there was a scramble for a rebound on the Sooners end of the floor that originally was called a foul on Oregon. After a review the call was reversed to be a foul on Williams and Oregon going to the line. Oregon made 2 free throws to lead 90-86. After a missed 3-pointer by OU, the Sooners fouled to try and get back in the game. Oregon made one, 91-86. OU turned the ball over on the following possession and then fouled again. Two made free throws lifted the score to 93-86 for Oregon. Robertson was fouled on the next possession during a 3 point attempt. Robertson made all three to give OU a hope as the score was 93-89. Oregon once again made 2 free throws and led 95-89. OU was fouled and made one of two from the line, 95-90. Oregon then made 1 of 2 free throws to lead 96-90 with 10 seconds left. Robertson quickly made a 3-pointer to draw within 3 points with 7 seconds left. OU quickly fouled but Oregon made both free throws to ice the game at 98-93. OU missed a final 3-pointer as time expired.
The Sooners probably deserved better than to lose the game. But sometimes you have to see a victory slip away before you take the next step. Perhaps we will look back at this game and say, "OU proved themselves against Oregon and what was about to happen the rest of the season.".

The Sooners shot well at 39% for 3's and 36% overall. They shot 82% on free throws. The Sooners grabbed 41 rebounds to 46 for the much taller Ducks.
The Sooners play again tonight at 6:30 Central Time against Buffalo. After playing such a good game to be disappointed in the result hopefully the Sooners can rebound to play well today and get their fourth win against Buffalo.
