Will she cave for $750K?
Red Raiders gonna need some more hitters, too.
I hope she signs for 2 million and they give Canady a raise to 4 million. Your material is better the more bitter you are 😂
I agree. Professional sports is getting crazier by the day.
See? You shine..

Nice to see you're finally getting how far it's going off the deep end.

3 more outs.

Do you suppose Canady will reimburse Deep Pockets some of her overpayment for this year?

Does anyone track each universities total NIL by sport? I imagine TX & OU softball pay is a lot overall. Wondering if TT total, less JC, is comparable to ours....?

This WCWS makes Paige Parker's performance in the 2016 WCWS all the more remarkable. Thank you, Paige!

Somehow I don't think it was a coincidence that Canady resigned her NIL deal with Tech less than 24 hours before the House Settlement Deal was announced. As part of that settlement, any NIL deal valued at more than $600 would have to be independently audited & verified that they are for "legitimate business purposes." Deals signed before the announcement of the settlement are exempt.

Maybe but the signing of that bill wasn't exactly a surprise.

The question now (after techs portal pick ups,) is did tech buy itself an actual championship for next season? Possibly.

If Patty can't get #9 pretty soon, it will get progressively harder, as the money continues to get bigger.

Here's a very recent article re what TxTech is doing, and how they're bypassing the rules:

Note that they are going after Kasidi Pickering.

I wonder if they were contacting her during the WCWS when we played against them? She had some super uncharacteristic weird play in that game offensively and defensively. Really hoping she stays put as she is as solid as they come (notwithstanding zero offense and that missed fly ball in the 7th inning).

In another game shortly before that she also made another costly error when she dropped a fly ball that she had in her glove.(if I remember that correctly)

I am reminded of how wealthy investors buy up housing in a hot market, and drive up prices quickly, pricing large numbers of people out of that market.(however, that is a legal move and is not a new tactic)

That article about the Matador club & the 3rd party loophole just reinforces my belief that it really doesn't matter what the eventual "rules" are that come out of the House settlement & eventual lawsuits. Schools, boosters, "collectives" etc. will find "loopholes" or will go old-school & bring the bagmen out from retirement to try to acquire the talent to give their programs an advantage.

Has anybody heard how the NIL Clearing House will establish "market value"? This just sounds like another loop-hole in the NIL fabric.

Yes, TTech bought a Trip to the WCWS, IMO, and is trying to buy a championship(s) at the whim of a billionaire and/or his wife. The facts are plain to me. Will they succeed? It's hard to argue they haven't succeeded to a great degree, and may prevail next year. I hope not, and it takes us all in a new direction with money and collegiate sports. A course correction.

Does the arc of history bend toward Justice? If so, these money games will eventually collapse upon themselves....but not until things get so out of hand and cause enough pain along the way that we fans say, "Enough!" I hope coaches at the Power Schools have wisdom and discernment about this for the good of the game(s) and the women who participate in them.

People argue, "Well, you dummy, money wins; that's just the way it is! Get real! Accept it! LOL!" I get that it seems that way when the minnow faces the shark. Well, I also happen to think things are the way they are because we choose them to be that way. At a minimum, I/we can dream out loud. I hope a collective of coaches speak out more on this topic and think very deeply about it - rather than get caught-up in a literal arms race. There are millions more minnows than sharks - and in the end, the sharks need the minnows to survive more than the minnows need the sharks to survive. My take.

Mention the word "oversight" or "regulation" these days and your address may be posted on the internet.... I'm sincerely curious about how this will all turn out. People complain about the toothless NCAA and other regulatory or rule-making bodies in softball and other sports. I get that. This is not a debate about whether over-regulation is just as dampening of fairness as no/minimum regulations - or - where we trust the sharks to have the minnows best interests at heart. I think we are all looking at what under-regulation looks like right now...and its effect on the game we love. There is a balance there somewhere I hope.

Though I don't like Karen Weekly so much, I can absolutely respect her points: This is not about fairness to players in terms of paying for their work, it's about fairness and sustainability of the game itself over the longer haul. "Anything Goes"...goes nowhere the way I see it.

The entire sport of women's college softball is swimming in uncharted waters. How much financial pressure can the sport take?!
