The Oklahoma Women's Tennis Team was selected for the NCAA Tourney last week and will play in College Station, TX in the Regional hosted by Texas A&M (#11 Seed), A&M-Corpus Christi and Arizona participating. The Regional action starts on Saturday the 4th of May at 10 AM CST with the Sooners facing the Arizona Wildcats in the planned outdoor matches. At 2 PM, Texas A&M will play A&M - Corpus Christi. The two winners will play on Sunday, the 5th at 1 PM.

The Oklahoma Sooner Women's Tennis team won their first round regional match in the NCAAs over Arizona in a sweep 4-0 in College Station, TX. The 18th ranked Sooners won the Doubles Point and then won the first three single matches that finished to sweep #40 Arizona.
in the match against Arizona on Saturday, surprisingly, the Sooners dropped the first doubles match that finished at the #1 spot. But the #2 (Julia Garcia Ruiz/Zdena Safarova) and #3 (Chloe Noel/Alina Shcherbinina) teams for the Sooners stepped up and won their matches to earn the Doubles point for the Sooners.
In the singles matches, the #1 (#37 Julia Garcia Ruiz), #5 (Emma Staker) and #3 (#121 Alina Shcherbinina) for the Sooners won their matches quickly in two straight sets to give the Sooners the sweep and the win.
The Sooners advance to face play Texas A&M on Sunday, May 5th at 1 PM. A&M won 4-0 over A&M-Commerce on Saturday. Texas A&M is the 13th Seed in the NCAAs. The last meeting between OU and A&M was in May 2022, when the Sooners took the Aggies to the wire and escaped with a 4-3 win in the national quarterfinals to send OU to their first Final Four in program history. To clinch the match on court six, then-freshman Emma Staker lost her first set 3-6 but battled hard to claim a 6-3 second-set victory. Staker carried her momentum into the third set and prevailed 6-4 before she was mobbed by teammates.

The #18 Oklahoma Women's Tennis Team dropped their match to #13 Texas A&M 4-0 in the second round of the NCAAs on Sunday. The Sooners finished the season at 19-7 overall, good for a third-place Big 12 finish and fifth NCAA tournament appearance under head coach Audra Cohen.
A&M won the Doubles point with wins at the #1 and #3 courts. A&M then followed that up with wins on the #1,#4 and #6 courts to sweep the Sooners.

I have been able to get to several matches this year to watch the Women play. I have enjoyed it each time. The energy and the quality of play is very high within the program. They play in both semesters, make a note and if you like tennis, come out and watch them.
